ignighter on my 1987

Post by Lance McCaw »

Just was reading about ignighters for 1986-1987 are not the best. I bought a battery before I found this site. I read that the dragging sometimes could be from a faulty ignighter ? The part number from 1986-2003 is the same so has Kawasaki upgraded these. I don't want to spend $375.00 and not fix it. Its very random and doesn't hesitate all the time. Love the bike but didn't get to ride much cause of the cold. I did replace the leaking seals but I do not believe in using any air in the forks (being a motocross guy) I also saw the intercom pin connector behind the left front turn signal. Look n at the cost of everything for that I think I would rather buy a sena system. Any thoughts.
Lots of info on this website and am going to use a lot of it. As I am now done racing motocross at age 50 the wife and I are finally going to cruise. I almost bought a wing, glad I didn't. Last thought I didn't light the sound of maybe a starter chain breaking and that why I ask about the ignighter.

Thank you for that info. I checked it and I do have the old one. I will buy a new one from Kawasaki right away. Don't know if I will buy a chain though. The bike only has 48,000 miles on in.

Check eBay and other sources but be careful that the stamped number is actually on it and shown. Some questionable folks have or may have removed the "bad" number and attempted to sell the unit as a "good" one.

I have not had good luck with e-bay. With electrical stuff I always prefer new.

A new one will cost you $$$$$$ Contact Carl Leo, he WILL NOT lead you wrong ever, any ingiter for 1988 and up will be the updated one, if you can't read the number on it on E-Bay DO NOT BUY IT, I have one but the numbers are almost unreadable, so I don't feel like offering it up on E-Bay because of that, it came off a wrecked 89 I bought to scrap for parts, I will just keep it for a spare for one of my bikes, CARL WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU.

Ok I will do that. How do I get a hold of Carl ? Phone or e-mail since I am new here. A new one is $375.00 at most places.
