radio question
the adventure continues, i bought a "working" radio off ebay and just got around to swapping it out ,I think it was put in right after the kitchen sink, but its changed out now the fun
everything seems to work on the radio but it has nothing from the speakers I only have front speakers at the moment.
My first thought is the mute button since it seems kind of sticky, I unplugged what I think is the connector for the hand controls but still nothing.
How does one go about bypassing or testing to see if its the mute button or the radio itself has a problem?
Or is there something else I should be looking for?
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks

Re: radio question
Check the HS (HeadSet) button. If it's pushed in, no sound from the speakers will you hear!

Re: radio question
And don't forget to check the rear radio control, more than one person has been thrown by it being on mute.

Re: radio question
Success !! the radio and cb both work, little did I know you seem to control all the volume from the switch on the bars. The speakers are not worth a crap but things are moving in the right direction.
Thanks for all the ideas

Re: radio question
Crash33..
I fix the radios and CBs etc..
But I would suggest you replace the stock speakers with Pioneer TS-G1033R or 34R speakers which will sort out some of the "wooly" mid range.. Bear in mind you will NEVER get good bass from 4" speakers..
Here is the link for setting up the radio (just a few messages below this one in this forum)..

Any Questions etc, just yell..
Cheers..

Well there are a couple of things I can do..
I can add a 3.5mm (1/8") jack socket to the front by the tape door flap or on a trailing cable out of the back to allow you to plug in the Sirius radio or Gps or phone or mp3 player and play it through the speakers or headset. To do so, you have to select Tape (with no tape in).. If you are using a GPS, the mod allows you to play the radio and head GPS instructions in the background at a lower level. I recommend a headset when doing this though.. Road noise would drown out the background GPS.
I can reverse the clock/station display, so it shows the time rather than the station till you press a radio button or scan button when it shows the station for 5 secs after you stop scanning and then reverts back to the time.
I can have the LCD display turn off totally when you turn the radio or bike off although it doesnt save any power..
I can change the colour of the backlight on the LCD to anything you want more or less.
My '86 has a red background, my 94 had a blue/green..
Bluetooth MAY be an option for playback only into the radio later this year..
I can repair both the CB and Radio/cassette if needed..
Drop me an email or PM f you want more details..
Cheers..
Pete

Re: radio question
Pete Thanks for the info, here is one big issue, Hearing I only hear out of one ear and the other is somewhat limited. so a helmet set up is going to be the way to go since I got the factory system working but thru the front speakers I cant hear squat past about 30 mph, I do have a set of pioneer speakers that I will be installing but I dont think its going to do a lot at highway speeds.
Abit of insight from people with hearing issues , we hear the loudest thing no matter what it is, wind noise, static or low rumbles, I cant tell direction of sound so a low sound and high sound as in a gps will not work.
with that being said its a ... is what it is thing and no big deal to me other than trying to make something work.
My goal is to be able to listen to Sirius radio and to be able to talk to the GF on the bike, may not be something that will work 100% but its worth a shot
Right now I dont have any helmet connections and will be looking for some recommendations as to what would be the best, my thought is to get helmets just for this bike ( also need a passenger button set up )
sorry if its a bit long winded
Thanks

Any suggestions on where I might find these speakers? I've tried Ebay, Amazon and Google and all I can find is a Spanish language site! I've found other 4" marine speakers, is that what these Pioneer's are?

Re: radio question
D'oh...
Thats what happens as we age and try to remember stuff..
TS-G1043R and TS-G1044R
the former has probably been discontinued but Ebay and Crutchfield have the 1044Rs
Also look at the Kicker 4"
The biggest question you need to answer is just how likely are you to be riding in heavy rain?
These are not marine speakers but the cones material is waterproof..
Kawasaki made some (very hard to find), socks (bags) that sat over the rear speakers that would help there..
