Finally took photo's of 3W LED's on bike...

The link, above, should pull up a slide show with both the waterproof, 3W bicycle LED's, and some photo's of the inexpensive Emgo Highway Floor Boards. Both have been installed, and in use, for around two years.

The Emgo Floor Boards are available from Amazon.com (best price I've seen so far, $35.46, as of today.

The LED's can be found on e-Bay, for $27.99, as of today. There are others, much brighter, for varying prices. All LED's are vibration-proof, even the inexpensive bicycle units. They are cheap enough, that I don't worry about rock hits (2+ years, no issues, riding around 6,000+ miles total). Cheers!

The LED's look great. Can they be seen from a significant distance? Do they illuminate much or are they to make you more visible?

These 3 Watt LED's only put out 100 Lumens each. They really don't light up the road, at night. My only purpose in using them was to create a triangle of light. Trains use a triangle of lights to allow people to see the triangle growing in size, which allows them to estimate how fast it is approaching them.

If I did it again, I would use something in the neighborhood of 800-1,000 Lumen LED's. These are bright enough for conspicuity purposes, but only just. They were only around $17 delivered, when I purchased them two years ago. There are many more options available today. Cheers!

Well... I may be going WAAAYYYY overboard here. I bought these lights, primarily to see deer and be seen during the daytime. I live in deer infested country and have a 40 mile commute and leave at 5AM so its DARK!

27 watts, 2150 lumens each. My plan is to wire them into the high beam circuit so they are only on when I'm alone (don't want to blind oncoming drivers). Am I nuts? :bat: The price was right, I couldn't resist  . If they are too much, I'm sure I can find another use for them.

No, you are not "nuts", crazy, maybe... :devl

Just kidding! :wnk2:

They will get the road lit up for you, that is certain! As for using them during the day, as running lights/making a triangle, they *might* be a bit bright. You will have to evaluate that for yourself. Try asking family, or friends, to drive towards you, and get their honest opinion. It is a judgement call. [Technically, there are legal limits to headlight brightness. On paper, running lights are not allowed to be brighter than headlights (around 750 Lumens on Lo-Beam), but it's a tough law to enforce. Perhaps ask a local LEO?]

Some folks run with their headlight on Hi-Beam, during the day; some have their Headlight Modulator connected to their Hi-Beam, and run with that during the day. I use the Lo-Beam, with a Modulator, along with my 3W LED's. I am v-e-r-y visible in the daytime, according to anecdotal evidence, but I also wear a Road Crew Hi-Viz Vest, all the time. I go Lo-Beam, and 3W LED's because I don't want to blind oncoming traffic; others say that this is not an issue. It's another judgement call. Cheers!

Yes, I am concerned about being too bright during the day. I have a flashlight that has 7 cree LED's that runs on about 11 volts and it is extremely bright, easily equal to a headlight. These lights have 9 such LED's. I may end up using them to light my garage!
