Evening one and all, I had the pleasure of buying an 03 XII with about 29k on the dial. I've already enjoyed learning some of the tips that I've read about so far and know I'll be doing a couple of them real soon.

Hey, Love my '03 that I have had for 2 1/2 years. Bought it with 16k and now have 50k, so yes I ride whenever i can.
Just a heads up, that unfortunately our 03's have possible issues. Here is a thread that just showed up for me on mine:
http://www.amervoyassoc.org/forum/viewt ... =15&t=7736

You might want to get a driveshaft with u-joint to put on the shelf for if and when you need it. They apparently didn't lube the u-joint properly. Me, if I had a reason to have it apart anyway, I would have changed it. I was lucky and it cropped up while riding at home. If on a trip, it could have been a much bigger (and more expensive issue). Carl said one guy was quoted near $900 (at least I think that was what he said) for a Kawasaki dealer to replace it.
I am looking at about $50 to do it myself.
Look for a 1999 or older with not too many miles on it (i am waiting for mine to come in with 30k). According to Carl, 120 to 150k is the minimum. I plan on doing a photo and video essay on it when I do it.
I hope I am not scaring you as I still love my bike. You just have to recognize the pro's and the con's.

I keep a speedometer cable on the bike whenever i travel and the speedo hub gear unit should be lubed on occasion (maybe every tire change). There are other posts that describe what to carry on the bike and maintenance better than I.

Enjoy,
Ken

Congrats! I have a 2003 and love it! it's a great bike. I bought mine in 2008 with 6K mileage. Now have about 28K. It a reliable bike and great performer. I went on a 7,000 mile ride with no issues. You'll have many years of enjoyment ahead.

Scott,
I had the pleasure of being one of the band members from Colonie HS in Colonie, NY to have the honor of participating in a band exchange trip with the Marietta, GA HS band around 1968. Kennesaw Mt. was one of the more memorable places we visited, and was beautiful. The rest of our visit to Marietta is somewhat cloudy to me due to the hospitality of our counterparts at Marietta HS :-)

Anyway, welcome to the forum, and just to reassure you.... you came to the right place.

They may not have developed the new Voyager if they hadn't stopped. If you haven't ridden one, you should. Nothing being said here against the inline 4 Voyager, and never will be. Maybe Ma Kaw will read this & think about it. :hmm:

Again thank you. I've been waiting to find a ride like this one. I agree that all the manufacturers went nuts with size for no real good reason other than that they could.
