ZG 1200 not starting after clutch rebuild

Post by Jensa »

Just rebuilt the clutch and now the bike will not start. Drove in the garage, did the rebuilt which took to weeks, because i found broken springs and had to order them, then try to start it for a test run sitting on the center stand. It will turn over and after 15 to 20 sec I smell fuel, but no fire. Tried to and found a spark on the left plug. Anyone with any suggestions?

Sounds like you may have flooded it? How old is fuel? If you show no signs of a leak? You may have a stuck float on a carb, Maybe tap on each carb. & see if it helps. I am in Summerfield and not to far from you. I could stop by or maybe you could give me a call 352-553 - 4992. Carl Leo is in Ormond beach and is the best one to get a hold of with a problem.

Fuel is about 2 weeks old. I ride every day to work, about 250 miles a week. The stuck float sounds like a reasonable idea. Thanks.

I'd look at the plugs and whats in the float bowl first before committing to removing the carbs first. Just sayin :hmm:

Might consider shooting a little starting fluid (either) in the carbs and see if she starts. Atleast that might tell you if it's fuel or fire. Just a thought........Gator Mike

Any chance you messed with the starter interlock either on the kick starter or the at the clutch lever when you rebuilt that clutch. Did you mess with anything on the left side of the engine during the rebuild?

Tried that, but it's hard to get it their. I'm taking it down piece by piece. I find the the problem eventually. I will try the fuel pump next. Draining the carbs and see whether I get some fuel going.

No just opened up the right cover, did the replacement and closed it back up. I checked all the interrupt switches. What angers me is the fact, that she turns over but does not fire.

Have you checked the fuel flow? You know the Voyager has a fuel pump. If the filter is clogged or the pump isn't pumping it will not get fuel. There is always the chance the pump got unplugged or has failed. If all of your plugs have spark it isn't a coil or ignitor problem. Lastly, take the air filter out and spray a little WD40 down the to the carbs and see if it fires up. Not a good idea to use ether starting fluid.
