As with any bike, there are good points and bad points, but here you will get pretty much all the info/opinions. I am thinking about the 1700 with ABS, others may not care to spend the money.

Don, while you are waiting for responses, here are some previous quotes on this forum from 1700 owners. If I recall correctly, everyone who has moved from a XII to a 1700 likes the 1700 way better after they get used to it and get it customized to their likeing!
Richard Pepin wrote:Well, I've had my Voyager for almost 2 weeks now, wow what a different ride. The ABS are awesome were well worth the wait, very strong and good feel. I was a little leery of the ride before my purchase, was concerned of the 3.1 travel on the rear. I think it rides much better than my 96. Fit and finish are great, getting lots of complements. Love the feel and sound of the motor. Only have 400 miles, can't wait for the 600 mile checkup and crank her up a little.
Will have more later.
HMB Don wrote:This morning I had to be in San Francisco at 6:15 am to ride moto support for the SF Alcatraz Trilithon. I was able to ride over Hwy 92 which is a mountian pass. With the air temp at 52 degrees, a winding road, no traffic, nothing but sunshine (no fog) I felt like I was riding with the wind. Using all of the gears, leaning into turns, with 30# of air in the rear shocks, the front end is loaded enough to handle like a dream. When I left S. F. the temp was 80 what a day.

I got a offical vehicle sticker, a 200# passanger, the course is open season for a hotrodder. the suspension handled all the bumps, dips like they weren't there. Biggest thing I've done is loosened the belt just a bit. Now the rear works wonderful.

It really is a fun bike to ride and the engine reminds me of the pulling power I feel when driving a F-350 with a Turbo Diesel. Pure pulling torque and smooth. Wife has stated that this one is not going anywhere, so it's a keeper. If you haven't ridden one, you need to. It is hard to believe it's a V twin sometimes when I'm riding. Good Times !!!!!

HMB Don wrote:ABS, get it, I was against ABS for a long time until coming down a hill in the mist with the road wet. I just touched the rear brake and the rear tire locked, I was able to stop. But when I got the 1700 it was an ABS model, just last week I went on a ride on wet roads, in the San Mateo Mtns. This was a tight twisting road that I would never ride before, the temp was in the low 40's, so shaded areas were wet. No worry about applying the brakes, I'm a front brake user, so this whole ride I just use the front brakes. No matter how wet, slick or cold the road, the ABS does its job.

Keep the air in the shocks to at least 40 lbs and it will eat up the corners. In fact it loves the corners and going down the open road it is very ergononically correct you can put a long day in at ease. And if you do not believe me about the corners come follow me up and down Rattlesnake grade in southwestern WA. and northeastern OR. 23 miles of twisties unlike anything you will find east of the Rockies.

I never do put my bike away in the winter I ride year around. Lewiston is the lowest point in Idaho only 700 feet above sea level. The farthest inland seaport. West of the Mississippi. I spent a week in Arizona three weeks ago riding and with my riding around here with our club the L C Riders we have had 3 group rides this year already. And this weekend 4 of us are heading to Boise ID to a vinage motorcycle meet. I am waiting for lightning to strike me I now have 2 Hondas that I have restored a 1981 CB900c and a1982 GL500 Silverwing. I have about 3000 miles on this year already. I hope you are having a great riding season also. I just talked to Dave Wirtz he is in Key West now enjoying the sun. I hope everyone has a great and safe riding season.

Thank you to all who took the time to reply to my post. The good news is, I picked up my new 2013 voyager on March 26th. Still lots of snow here, so no riding for a while.
