Good News. Stock Radio with Bluetooth, SD card & USB Flash

Post by suzib6sw »

Well folks..
I just got Bluetooth, SD card and USB flash drives working on the Stock radio.
It does involve removing the tape drive out of the box, and making a plate to accommodate the module where the cassette inserts so it will remain safe from the elements..
No handlebar controls to change tracks or mode (yet) but it does have an infra red remote control which you point at the open cassette door..
Bluetooth works well .. I walked over 20 feet away from the radio with my phone and it never missed a beat..
The module itself does have buttons on the front but that will be hard to use with a gloved hand..
It also has an FM radio in it as well, though no display..
There is an alternative version I will have to explore with Display on it, so I may get one to see if i can get that to fit too, but in essence, its working..
Also it has and aux input as well so those who want a jack input still on the front or back, can still have one (for the GPS etc)..

More news and Pictures to follow as I make the plates up and fit it all in..

cheers and beers..

Pete

I currently do not need any work done on my system, but sure nice to know that I will be able to keep current with modern electronics on this bike. Really only about three things keep those old dinosaurs from being as relevant as a new $20,000 touring bike. Suspension, upgrade thru Progressive and others. Seats, plenty good ones to choose from. Electronics, what you have come up with towards integrating new and old is awesome. I hope to have the time and $$$ to have an update on my system next year!!!! :woohoo:

Pete,
It is too bad there isn't a way to produce a module in the shape of a Cassette, that will provide the functions you have developed. Just a dream.......

Actually Bill, there is. The problem is that it drops down like a cassette and interfaces like a conventional cassette adapter does with the tape head.. This means that the belts still need to be in good order and the heads, clean but its limited by that interface as to its quality.. It also requires independently charging or powering so wires are still involved.. It uses a remote control which again, is impossible to use gloved.. so in the long term, there are no benefits..
The last time I looked, it would only take SD cards (full size) and no thumb drive or bluetooth..
I have considered it, but rejected it because of the limitations and requirements..
I will be happy to obtain and supply these devices if anyone truly wants one though.

Sounds great Pete, whenever you get it to the point that you have it all figured out, I'll hire you for the upgrade! You did great work for me the 1st time when you fixed my radio and put in the MP3 input in mine. Will probably wait for winter when I won't miss my radio so much. Kelly in Kansas
