There was a verdict handed down last week in Montreal for a woman who stopped on a provincial highway in the left hand lane to get out and help ducklings she spotted walking on the side of the road. She didn't turn her hazards on, and simply walked away from her car to chase the ducks. A motorcyclist ran into the back of the parked car killing himself, and his 16 year old daughter who was his passenger. The mother was behind them, and witnessed the entire thing.

The thing here is that I came across this article on Facebook, and while the stupidity of the driver is incredible, the comments I saw associated with this article were disgusting. Many blamed the rider for not paying attention and reacting quickly enough. It's amazing the sheer ignorance of those who really know little to nothing about riding a motorcycle.
This kind of thing could happen to anyone. Stupidity has to be one of the leading causes of motorcycle deaths and injuries, and sometimes it's the stupidity of the rider. Other times it's the result of stupid cages around them.
The woman convicted is still in shock that a jury would dare to reach a guilty verdict. Two people are dead over ducks, and she's still confused.

I agree, many people are ignorant when it comes to freeway driving. Particularly in that area, its a busy freeway and the driver of the bike could never have seen it till it was too late.

Sad thing is we have people who plan & carry out a murder in this country and only get a slap on the hand
Thou she was wrong, she had no intention to kill anyone. Pretty harse punishment IMO
Sad situation everyone suffers

Re: Woman convicted of killing father/daughter on bike
As tragic as this reads, she abandoned a car in the middle of the freeway to chase after ducks. The law says you MUST have full control of your vehicle at all times on a public thoroughfare. I realize the motorcyclist was also culpable since he was responsible for maintaining full visual contact of the road ahead, but she is more culpable because she failed to provide warning that the car was in the roadway and was stopped. I feel sorry for her but this is the responsibility you accept when you get a license to drive a car.
