I have noticed that the tire companies have been busy trying to make a good heavy touring tire. I also noticed that they are not all making a tire that matches the stock size that origionally came on our bike. The 170-70-16 is only made by a couple manufacturers. Ifyou want a particular type of tire, you have to go with a slightly smaller tire like a 180-65-16 which makes the speedometer error off by even more. From what I have been reading about this, it seems to be common knowledge that the speedometer on most bikes is off a bit, usually on the low side. I have found that the 180-70-16 size seems to be the answer. SO, I have been busy contacting the manufacturers and asking if they have plans to build their tires in the 180-70-16 size.
