Hey Fellas, another new guy here....

Post by Littlebeaver »

Hi, Littlebeaver here, or Beave or Martin, which ever you prefer, I just got a 99 Voyager and I have that dreaded wandering issue in the wind, it has shinko tires on it so I will change them out first, I will follow the advice given in the post I read here already, I have had a few bikes in my past, Kawa 82 CSR 750 , 82 Kawa 750, 79 XS-11 Special, 2003 Kawa Nomad, 1981 Honda Goldwing 1100... I have learned a lot about bikes in general, still learning as I am a Arm Chair mechanic like many...I love my Kawasaki's and I still have my Honda, I like them equally, don't have any of the others mentioned... Think I will like it here... Oh wandering at highway speeds..

Beave, WELCOME from Pennsylvania!
There is tons and tons of info and opinions here. This is such a large collection of knowledge that in the 7 years or so that I've been a member I can't remember one instance where a problem couldn't be rendered given enough time and energy!
Everyone here is great and even though we may have differences in opinion that doesn't mean either is wrong just not right for that individual.

Hey , thanks guys I see the E 3's in my future.... I'm kinda liking the idea of the Car tire I am reading about, I change out my own tires and I use dyna beads as well, I use the Bridgestone Spitfires on my GL and I really like them, anyone use them on the Voyager here? Just curious, I am not used to a bike wandering this bad, I had to labor to keep it in line, once I reduced the speed to about 60 it relaxed and behaved... I can and will figure this issue out, this site has me on the right path already, other than the wandering, the bike is really smooth going through the gears, very quick and a joy to ride..... :woohoo:

Well, just got her registered in my name all legal and such and I am a happy camper, in Kansas you must take a vehicle bought from another state to an inspection center. While I was there, a fella decided he really liked it as he was waiting to have his vehicle inspected.... He said he loved the color and seemed like he really liked the bike,,, blew him away when I showed him the rear radio controls for the passenger... I have a Kawasaki again and that makes me happy.... Oh, thanks for the warm welcome... :gig:

Welcome aboard. Your bike seems to look a lot like my '99 VXII :gig: Another thing you might want to look at,beside the tires,is the steering stem bearing preload of 96 inch pounds, this can make a noticeable difference in wonder.

Well, I got down on the floor this morning to have a better look at these tires, he has a Duro on the rear and a Skinko on the front, the steering stem nut was loose a good quarter turn near a half turn, Wow....It's set at 96 inch
pounds now...My goodness.... No wonder it wanders, Oh front tire had 30lbs of pressure in it... I am debateing whether to get the CT or get the two E3's. I suppose I should get a E3 front regardless of the CT on the rear.. Now how many ounces in that CT tire? 2 or 3 ounces...? Or would I be better off just getting the 2 E3 tires? Decisions decisions..... :tho: :gig: Hey if that nut was off , I bet the swingarm bolts or nuts are off too...Going to see...

Also check the fork brace bolts. They have a tendency to loosen over time and miles. Also the frame bolts. 6 or 7 per the service manual. I found all of mine loose (including the brace) at about 30k.

Wish I could remember source I got info from, but recall 3oz for car tire on the rear. I put 3oz in when I installed a couple of months ago. I have been more than happy in all kinds of riding conditions possible, including some pretty aggressive "canyon carving" with quick changes in speed and direction of travel.

You could check on the Dyna-Beads website. Oh, wait, that's like reading an instruction manual! Never mind! :gig: :gig:
