TIP: Use The QUOTE Feature To Keep The Conversation Clear

Post by WingNutLori »

I'm sure you've seen posts that include a box where a prior post is repeated (in full or in part). How do we do that?

Instead of hitting the "Post A Reply" button at the bottom of the page, click the "Quote" button to the far right of the message you wish to answer. The same message post window opens with the previous message already in the editing window. You can remove anything that you don't want to appear in the new message, and write your comments below.

Now, why do we use the QUOTE feature?

1. If you are commenting on a post, QUOTE allows you to define who (or what) you are answering...even if others have chatted to the forum since the original comment was made.

2. QUOTE is particularly useful when using the 'Private Messaging' (or PM) feature. PM's are a lot like email. When you "Reply" to an email, though, the original message is included with the response. Not true with PM. So you might want to respond to PM's with a QUOTE so that that other person can remember what they said that triggered your note.
I want to live my life in such a way
that when my feet hit the floor in the morning,
Satan shudders and says...
"Oh crap... she's awake!"

An additional tip when quoting - if the poster asked more than one question or had "extra" comments but you are answering a specific question, delete out the other questions and extraneous info, especially in long quotes and especially photos if they are not pertinent to your response.

However, be sure the "[quote="username"]" is still in tack at the beginning. And also the "[/quote ]" at the end. (Note I had to put an extra space between the "e" and "]" in this demo or otherwise it would have quoted the parts of this post between the quote tags! In a real quote that space would not be there.)
