So here is my first attempt to install the bag lid restraints. First, I got some small nylon eye straps from West Marine:
I found some small carabiners at Advance Auto near the register for keychains ($4 for three):
I then used 3/16 pop rivets to attach the straps to the lid and bag:
Now to tie my camo clothesline from Home Cheapo to the carabiners and eye strap:
Now the lids hang below the bags. If I want, I can shorten the lines...

Re: Saddlebag Lid Mod
Very nice looking mod - I will suggest what was suggested to me - shorten those lines about 8" so the lid just clears the saddlebag. With your mounting method it will be super easy and quick.

Re: Saddlebag Lid Mod
I did that on the other side, left the lines short so the lid doesn't hang to the ground. The good news is nothing is "crimped" or permanent as to the length of the line. I can untie the square and half hitch knots and shorten them. The left bag is my "tool" side for the tool kit, rags, polish, strut pump, spare fuel canister, and other stuff I don't need to get to easily when on the kickstand. The right side is my clothing side with rain gear, neck gator, gloves, PGR collapsable flag, etc. This is only the first iteration of the install, so film at 11...

Re: Saddlebag Lid Mod
I followed the suggestion to shorten the lines to allow the top to lay on the side of the bag rather than hang. After I thought about it, if the lid came loose and fell down with the long lines, it might beat the crap out of the bag and bottom of the trunk before I could stop from cruise.
Here's a closeup of the clip for quick removal..
Works great. Thanks everyone!!
