Need for fuel management

Hi all, just wondering if you can get away with after market mufflers and a KN air filter without installing a cobra, or other, fuel module
Some bikes will handle one or the other, was just wondering about the 1700.

I installed a K&N air filter on my 1700, without any other mods. Runs good, but runs much better with 90 or 91 fuel. Air filter has been in service for over 30,000 miles.

I have the K&N air filter & V&H exhaust & it run's fine.

Thanks beetle I kind of thought it might. I have heard though that adding the fuel module might help bring the temp down a little.

Anyone gone the other way? I have the Thunder stock air kit, with stock pipes and rear baffles removed. Am running a G-man controller but mileage has dropped to 32-35mpg from 42-39.

This is one of those: It depends. Are you making these changes because you want more performance out of the bike? Are you making these changes because you just want more noise? These bikes are usually lean from the factory. Adding more air without more fuel makes them even leaner. The US bikes are not closed loop. No oxygen sensor in the exhaust. Good luck.

BTW: I run stock exhaust that everyone can't believe is stock, and OEM air filter.
