I have the same problem currently, but with mine it's about 2 gallons left. I just know the range of my bike and know when I need to gas it up.

Now, I've also ridden it until the light came on just to make sure it actually worked. Unfortunately, that warning light on my bike doesn't come on with much range at all. In fact, the one time I tested it to see how far I could push it, the light came on at the top of an overpass, and I was coasting by the time I hit the bottom.

It's not a "problem," it's the way it works. On mine, after "E" I ride some more and the needle finally pegs at the bottom of the gauge, I ride some more and finally the low fuel light comes on. At that point there is still over one gallon left. It was exactly the same when I had an '01 XII. And many people here have reported the same.

Appreciate the input........We all know about using the trip odometer to determine range.

I remember the old days, when you shook the tank to determine about what was left.

By the way;My cruse control doesn't work....It does light up, though.

never used cruse-control on any previous bikes........not a big deal; just curious.

(think I spelled cruse wrong).

Cruise control:
has to be in OD
switches on front brake and rear brake both have to be good and closed (my front one was bad).
The cable could have stretched - or never been adjusted (also my bike).
Never had CC before, now it would be hard to live with out it (like my wife has to with her bike).

I ordered a replacement sender after twice getting down to 3/10 ish on long trips (lot of open spaces out here in the west ). Test a couple of times by staying near gas stations, relatively, then when the light came on I proceeded to the nearest one. Both times I had 1.2 gallons.
It doesn't usually come off full till more than 50 miles has passed, on the highway about 70.

Personally, the peace of mind was worth the money (long time ago now, think about $80 ish). Doesn't take more than an hour to change, just make sure you are under half a tank to be safe.
That's my opinion.
Off to the Dominican Republic with about 23 students (age from 20 to 70). See you all in a couple of weeks (layover at JFK in NY both ways). :corn: Couldn't find a ferry from Miami to the DR or would have taken the bike. :hmm:

PS. Mailing my registration on the way to the airport for Estes.
