First 1000 miles

Post by delsurfin »

A month ago I bought a2001 with 6325 miles. All factory original ( no CB).
I have tried 13 motorcycles in the last 13 years and I am now done.
This bike should never have been discontinued, rather refreshed with FI and a cd player.
I have only added an air hawk pad/ cassette to MP3 ADAPTER, and will get a national cycle windscreen ( 6 wider and 27 tall with a vent) shortly.
My last tank I averaged 47.9 MPG and like everything about the bike .It even has the original booties for the rear speakers and the clip on cover for the radio face.
The little details are really something like the ratchet tighteners for the saddle bags and the dash (actually side) mounted air valves and the headlight adjustment knob.
Everywhere I go people think it is brand new.
My only problem is remembering at some point I need to return home and not just keep on going.
I really don't know (as the third owner) how this bike was maintained so well ,but all I have really done is help out a little with some sea foam and high grade fuel and watch the fluids and air pressures.
Wish I had bought one twelve tears ago and saved myself a lot of trouble.
Very friendly and helpful web site just have not mastered the photo insert method yet

Yes - the best kept secret in the touring motorcycle world! Just remember when you change the oil there are TWO drain bolts and the oil must be drained from both! Also, when you replace tires, avoid the Dunlop D-404!

Bring it to the Estes Park rally in June and show it off!

I got mine on June 15th of last year and I love it!!! I did have to replace the water pump over the winter and did a few other little things. I would like to eventually put the progressive shocks on it and also do Pete's MP3 mod. Other than that, this is a great bike!!!

Enjoy that bike and keep riding.

Great find, you have plenty of miles ahead of you with this fine machine. Whatever you need to know about the voyager, this is the forum to ask. Welcome aboard.. Gene Kap.

Nice to find a best kept secret and make it yours!

I agree. I'm thoroughly pleased with mine. such a reliable motorcycle, comfortable and you are not having to get a second mortgage to maintain it.

My next project will be Progressive springs in the fork tubes...

We're all celebrating with you Ed! :wnk2:

After a few V twin bikes, I was looking for a project. Stopped and looked at this 98 voyager, but deal fell thru. Another person, we dealt and he delivered a decent 03, but needed a cpl of things fixed. I now have two, 87 with 16k miles and 03 with 49k. My 86 is parts up for sale which I'm told has progressive springs. I've had Harley guys compliment this kawa

I love my 96' picked it up with only 37k on the OD last summer and after some minor repairs and a couple doses of sea foam it's been running great. Been driving to work a few times the last week and a bit and I turn heads on the road.
