Hi Guys,
I've just discovered that I have rust in the bottom of the gas tank on my 2001 voyager that I just bought and trying to get up an running. It has been in storage for 7 years. I have the service manuals but just wondering the best way to remove the gas tank.
Many thanks,
Sci

...Found this back on page 10 of the tech tips section ,so you can see what your about to get in to. Fuel tank removal on a touring bike is no quick easy job.

I have done this and as stated in the previous post, it is not easy job. Not difficult, just time consuming. Gas tank removal is in two places in the manual. One to actually remove the tank and the other is to replace the fuel filter. You don't have to remove the tank to replace the filter. Take your time. You will basicly take the middle of the bike apart. Again, not hard, just time consuming. Best suggestion I have for you is, while you have the tank out have the carbs rebuilt by Carl Leo. Much easier to get them out then than later. Replace the fuel filter as well..
Good luck,

Re: gas tank removal, 2001 voyager
Just wondering if any one has removed their gas tank and could give me a few more pointers (the manual is very vague). I have removed the bags, trunk and rear shocks but I can't see how to disconnect the antenna from the rack so as to remove the rear frame as the manual says.
Many thanks,

I am not near my bike as I write this,,, but as memory serves, I don't recall any issues with antenna removal. the antenna "whip" unscrews from the curved chrome bracket..... OR...the curved chrome bracket comes off the bike by removing the two 6mm fasteners with your 10mm socket or wrench ? ?
right....?
right....?

I just found out that I could lay the rack aside without removing the antenna "base". I'm a slow learner.
Thanks
