Cruise control

I just bought a 1993 Voyager with 35000 miles on it. The guy I bought it from said Cruise worked till the kickstand switch was taken off. How do I troubleshoot the cruise control.

Hello from NJ. There is a link somewhere on here that will have the service manual in .PDF format. Read up on it and get yourself familiar with the sys . Could be something is just unpluged or a poor conection or bad cutout switch. Was the bike garage kept or was it subject to the outdoors ? Does the power on lamp come on; on the fake tank control, or will it just not set speed ? What have you done so far as to troubleshoot this issue ? Gene

Thank you Ekap1200 , The light on the tank comes on, The bike seems to have been left out of a garage. It just don't set speed. The guy I bought it from said it worked up until the kickstand switch was removed. I replaced the switch and have nothing. I will try to locate the pdf. other than that I have not done anything but install an aftermarket cruise that is not much good. This is my first cruiser and it is a blast.

Just so we are on the same page here. The cruise will not set unless your in 5th gear.
if that is still not the issue look to make sure that the connection to the dash is good as the cruise works off of the speed so it will maintain whatever speed you set it at even going up hills.

I will check the connection this afternoon,Thank you. I didn't know about the 55 thing but have tried it at highway speed in hopes it was something like that.

When I got mine it would cut out a few seconds after being set. It would also cutout if any hill or bump. Turns out mine had a flakey hand brake switch and the Cam takeup on the throttle control unit (inside the right front fender covering in the area below the right mirror) had never been adjusted.
Hand brake switch would cause it not to set, or drop out with any bump (i would push the handle forward and it would set, but not stay). I replaced the switch and then it would work until any up hill where the throttle had to roll on. The cam like take up wheel couldn't turn enough until I adjusted it (somewhere here in the forum is a great discussion on it). Now it works great (except serious hills of course).
Other thoughts: do you see an "OD" on the dash. That indicates when you are in 5th gear. If it doesn't come on you won't be able to set the CC. Someone posted a way to put a switch in that will fool the CC into thinking you are always in OD. I am considering it as I pull a trailer and sometimes it would help to run in 4th. Also maybe in very long mostly flat road construction where you are limited to 35 to 45 mph. Just thinkin....
