TEMP GAUGE REPAIR
My temp gauge does not work, and I heard this is a common problem. What is the best way to get to the thermostat to add a ground wire/fix the problem.

Re: TEMP GAUGE REPAIR
Remove Faux tank cover, remove battery, remove battery tray, Look up under right side forward you will see hoses and connections, and T-stat hsg, sender is just to the right of t-stat hsg sticking down should have a wire coming out the bottom of sensor, wire has a female bullet connector on the end , sometimes from vibration it get worn or loose, or falls off, clean and crimp it so it fits tight. Also follow that wire to the right and there is another connector that may need same thing, kinda hard to get to that one. see drwg on this post: http://amervoyassoc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8451" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
One on the bolts on the T-stat hsg can be loosened and a separate ground wire can be attached to it and then attached to the ground wire on the battery or another good ground location.
This gauge has always been a common problem for the XII. I used a simple digital A/C pencil type temp gauge ($6.00 at Hrbor Frt) & stuck it down between the alternator cover and back of engine and it gives you a accurate temp in "DEGREES" rather than a uninformative line!! also view this photo: Temp is 85.8 degrees, http://i60.tinypic.com/2yo2zjq.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: TEMP GAUGE REPAIR
Thanks Doug of so Fla: I just bought this bike, and it has only 28000 miles on a 1998 model.. I'm trying to get the bike ready for a trip to Knoxville, Tenn and Myrtle Beach next week.
