Low Fuel Light
My low fuel light isn't working. I did a forum search and came up with nothing as the search criteria was to common. I think that's what it said.
Any ideas as to the issue or point me to a previous post with suggestions.

Re: Low Fuel Light
The "Low Fuel Light" is a well known issue. Mine didn't work when I bought it 3 1/2 years ago. After almost running out a couple of time (5.9 out of 6.1 both times) I decided the cost to replace was worth the insurance.
The unit hangs down at the bottom of the sender as one unit. All it takes to replace is pulling the faux cover, and the seat. Then, if I remember right, 4 bolts and an electric connector.
I sent my bad one off to someone (I think it was Gene K) who thought they would see if they could fix. Never heard anymore on it.
With a working one, mine does now, I have 1.2 to 1.25 gallons left when the light comes on. The gauge hits bottom with about 2 gallons left (my guess).
Enjoy,
Ken

Re: Low Fuel Light
Hello from NJ, when you say not working ; are you saying you have run the tank empty and have been stranded.
The fuel gauge on my bike will show empty at around 220 miles . I have run it down further to about 250 and that is where it will come on. Have you pulled the sender unit out and it shows it not working ? Or are you seeing the gauge read empty thinking it should have come on.?
Hello Ken, you didn't send your old one to me. You sent me a drive shaft with a bad u-joint. One day I will spend the $ 130 and have a new spare in stock.

Kawasaki
item: 52005-5019
Old Sku: 52005-1076
$97.02 (price is about $15 more than I paid)
Though they list it, I can't guarantee they actually have it. You should check Carl Leo first.
Thanks Gene for reminding me. Could have been Pete, but it has been long enough I really don't remember. As to relying on the light to tell me when to get gas, I mostly figure over 200 miles (unless pulling the trailer) and gauge at empty, it is time to start looking for a station. I live out west where they can be far apart.
Ebay has 2 listed right now. Both salvage pulls. Mostly say they came out of a working bike, but I doubt they tested to see if the reserve light came on. They would probably work for just the sender, but not worth it if you want a properly working bike (IMHO). Again, Carl Leo (or a member of this forum) if you are thinking used.
Enjoy,
Ken
PS. Bulb should come on when the key is turned to run. If not, then that could be it also.

Re: Low Fuel Light
Gene,
I've suspected for the last couple of years that the fuel light wasn't working.
I drained the tank so I could replace the fuel lines and filter without losing a lot of fuel. When I finished the project, I put 1/2 gallon of fuel back in the tank to run the engine and verify that I had no leaks or other issues. The fuel light didn't come on.
I haven't tested any further than that. Trying to see if there were any known issues that might provide an easy fix.
Thanks for all the responses.

Re: Low Fuel Light
the only time that you have too much fuel is when the bike is on fire.
