I have read about a thread for installing an interrupt switch in the line to the starter but I can't find it. Would anyone have this? This switch would be handy because after the bike has set idle for a week or longer, some of the gas has evaporated and this would allow the fuel pump (which is only activated when the start switch is pushed) to get the fuel up to the carbs without the starter grinding away. This switch would really be handy for me at the moment because my fuel pump is not pumping and I would like to try and fix it and test it on the bike because of its 4 wire plug. It does vibrate when the start switch is pushed so I removed it to check the points and they are like new. Are there any other tests for the fuel pump like checking the resistance of the windings, etc?
Many thanks,
Dan

Re: Interrupt switch for power to starter modification
If the pump vibrates, normally the pump would push fuel as that is the action of the diaphram piston within the windings. The fuel filter is upstream of the pump, so if it is blocked no fuel would be getting to the fuel pump diaphragm.
Or, as a long shot, the pump diaphram has a tear/hole in it.
Just some thoughts.
Dave

Yes,Sci,The thread you are looking for,and I used with great results ,was posted about October 2008 titled Hard start after sitting solutions.I hope this helps you.Sci_ wrote:I have read about a thread for installing an interrupt switch in the line to the starter but I can't find it. Re: Interrupt switch for power to starter modification
Thanks Dave, Thanks Cushman.
Ps-I removed the fuel pump and run a line into a jug of gas to see if it would pump and it hummed but wouldn't pump. I ended up ordering a new one. Thanks again, Dan

Works like a dream. Install switch next to fill neck in overflow pan at top. turn switch off hit starter button fuel pump comes on fills carbs flip switch hit starter bike starts right up. Also good antitheft device flip switch when you get off won't start. But I know it works great bike was spiting and sputtering when I pulled into gas station I put 6.1 gallons in just made it.

That way you know how much the bike holds.big0078 wrote:Works like a dream.
