The owners manual says that the 1700 needs at least 90 octane fuel
The only gas station in our spot in the road only carries 87 and I have encountered others too
I read about a product called Rocket Fuel made by Cal Products
It comes in convenient pouches made for 6gallons of gas and raises the octane when 90 is not available. BUT It comes with a warning that it cannot be used with O2 sensors or Catalytic Converters. Does the 1700 Voyager have these devices ?
Has anyone tried this product or have any knowledge on this subject ?
It would be convenient to be able to use it where premium gas is unavailable But----------
I don't want to ruin my engine

Re: OCTANE BOOSTER
On my Voyager 1700, I try using only the 91 octane gas. But on my last trip there were many times 91 octane wasn't available. I used 85 or 87 octane with no problems. All 2009-14 Voyagers have Catalytic Converters and the 2015 Models have both the Cat and O2 senser.
After I got my 1700 I was only using 87 octane (engine electronics take care of the pinging). That went on for thousands of miles, until one day I did a top end run and the engine wouldn't rev past 4,000 RPM in either 5th or 6th gear. So after that I went to 91 octane. There's a slight difference in fuel mileage between the 87 & 91 octane. It hasn't made a difference if the gas is a 10% ethanol blend or not. My fuel mileage stays the same.
Additives; I use only Amsoil products. P.i. Performance improver, I add 1/2 oz every other fuel stop, but when not on a motorcycle tour I add it to the fuel once a month. I tried Octane Boost, packaged in small bottles enough to treat 6 gallons of fuel. The cost was $5.00 per bottle. It worked ok for a day of hard riding, otherwise you're just spending money.
My Voyager 1700 now has lots of miles, with no ill effects on the engine or performance.
