Trailer Wiring Pictures

Post by aggdoc »

Does anyone have any pictures they can post showing where and how they put in a wiring harness for a trailer. I know this has been covered before but nothing recently showing new members like myself where exactly is the best place to connect to the bikes wiring. Thanks

I don't have a readily available diagram, but I purchased a wiring harness that had a module which had independent micro-relays for all the functions. A main B+ lead to power all the relay's from the main or sub fuse panel and a neg (gnd) lead. That way if you have an issue with the trailer wiring, you only pop the fuse supplying the main trailer B+ or the supplied B+ fuse to the trailer relays. This way you don't fry your bikes wiring. The connections to use as the source signals to the module relays are all available under the trunk. The left/right turn to each saddlebag, and the running and brake light signals (+ a ground source.) Do not rely on the connection between the trailer hitch ball and the trailer tongue hitch for your ground or B- signal. So you will be wiring a 5-wire system. If you will be using a trailer that is set for 4-wire (running lights, ground, and turn/brake for left/right) you'll need an adapter to convert the bikes 5-wire to a 4-wire system. This might sound confusing, but it really isn't.

My 2015 is in the shop for recall work. Hope to have it back by Wednesday. Send me a reminder and I'll take some photos of how I did mine.
