Out of gear
2001 voyager 9661 miles,
Went around a corner downshifted into second, bike shuttered like it was going to stall then no engagement grabbed the clutch engine running fine no motion.
Pulled over- downshifted into first, felt engagement,. let out the clutch and engine dies,. Repeated the process several times finally by riding the clutch at high rpm nursed the bike a hundred yards then no forward motion.
Finally nursed and pushed it home.
No fluids slung around anywhere bike didn't
overheat and starts and idles great.
This came at the end of a 50 mile run of which 90 % was in overdrive
Any clues?
ED

Re: ouy of gear
Try joining the 2 wires which connect to the sidestand switch. This will in effect bypass the switch. Just a thought as when this switch is activated by having the stand down, and the clutch lever is released in gear, the engine power is interrupted and the engine stalls. The switch may be defective.

Re: ouy of gear
If it's the switch, FYI the trunk light switch is the same.
you don't need a light in the trunk but you do need the switch on the kick stand.

Re: ouy of gear
I cut and joined the two wires on the side stand and no change.
I release the clutch ever so slightly ( in first) and the engine shuts off.
This is making me crazy. Both front and rear wheels free wheel in neutral and on the center stand the rear wheel locks in first (bike off of course) doesn't seem to be brake related. Maybe slave cylinder?

Re: ouy of gear
did you join the two wires together? that will close the circuit and make it think the kickstand is up.

Re: Out of gear

Grounded the red and yellow wire left the black and yellow alone.
BINGO
Engages in 1st fine--the wire I grounded should be red and black, looks like previous work was done.

Re: Out of gear
Sounds like the yellow/black wire may be broken somewhere.
Yellow/black should be ground.
check the link below there is a wiring diagram there along with other goodies.

Re: Out of gear
Wouldn't it just be quicker to hook the red/yellow back to the switch and drop a new ground to a close frame bolt? Unless he's having more problems somewhere else that might be related to the ground.chevyman1 wrote:Sounds like the yellow/black wire may be broken somewhere.

Re: Out of gear
Still in trouble
I quit bike will be torched in place.
After thinking all was well, went out to start bike, turned on key and no lights no dash no neutral indicator. Found neutral ( no dash indicator) started bike and headlight came on and bike ran still no dash lights.
Went to release clutch and engine cuts off ,rechecked previous ground wire and that was ok.
Bike again cuts off every time I release the clutch as before but now I have the added issue with the lights.
This " wonderful bike" I so enjoyed is becoming the biggest headache ever.
I cannot reconnect to the side stand because I cut the wire so close.
I have no idea why this light issue started overnight without touching the bike.
Anyone have a clue?

Re: Out of gear
Quick answer.
Order a new side stand switch (maybe Carl has one)and check your fuses.
When you ran the switch to ground you may have blown a fuse or two.

Re: Out of gear
I would check the wires going to the ignition they could be broken.
Make sure the wire tie was removed from the left side in front of the flux tank.
When they brake they can cause all sorts of problems.
Another thing to check is the big plug that goes to the fuse block that's on the left side of the bike, sometimes they lose contact and burn.
Clean it and put dielectric grease on it then wire tie it together to keep it tight.
You will have to take off the fairing to get to it.

Re: Out of gear
10 pin connector gave me fits on both my bikes in very different ways. In the most remote areas and at night. Cut them out on both my bikes and soldered and heat shrinked the wirering. never had an electrical issue since on either bike. wish it was the first thing I did when I got the bikes. Would have saved me a lot of problems.

Re: Out of gear

10 pin connector that runs to the side stand was undone. Plugged it together/taped and tie wrapped to the frame for strain relief--All iS good.
Thanks to all
