Reserve Lighting Module connections for Mr Jensee

Post by triton28 »

While hooking up an HID Hi/Low bulb l discovered that once I switched to high beam I could not switch back to low beam and the RLM indicator bulb would not go off. So I removed the Light Green/Red wire from the RLM connector and the RLM indicator bulb went off. Next I removed the Blue/Orange wire and I was able to change from to low to high, back and forth ad infinitum. (This Bl/O wire was just for my purpose of getting the HID bulb to switch up and down, and had nothing to do with the RLM indicator bulb being on or off).
Image
This plan view shows the tool used to remove the brass connector from the plastic housing. The blade of the tool measures 1mm wide X 0.5mm thick, and the tang of the brass connector rises on the same side of the brass connector as the fold over "crimp ears" rise from.
Image
This side elevation shows how the tool engages the brass tang to depress it down to clear the plastic housing.
One can also file a finish nail to a square point and relieve one side of the nail down to the thickness and it does work. with the tool/nail there is no need to cut any wires. Once removed from the plastic housing, cover the exposed brass connector/s to prevent it/them from CONTACTING GROUND with some heat shrink tubing and a couple of wraps of electrical tape.
I can not explain the workings of the RLM circuitry but the modification/s I list above should help extinguish that pesky, annoying RLM indicator bulb.
Regards,
Dave

Thank you triton28. I tried a HID headlight and would love to go back to it. I had the same problem withe RLD staying on and not being able to switch back and forth.
Could you post pictures showing where the RLD is located and what wires from it you modified? That would be a great help.

If you go to the posting of bubbak from November 2nd, entitled "Turn signal not cancelling", go down to ekap1200's post and refer to the photo for the location. I'm not in my shop right now so I forget if it is the upper or lower but it is where the Red arrow is pointing, in the lower photo. You would have to take the plastic circuit connector for the RLM apart.
The wires I removed from the plastic connector were the ones coming from the RLM, just about 2 or 3 inches from the module itself, and not the wires coming from the harness proper.

Hi , the arrow I have in that photo is pointing to the cancel extender I have, the modules are about 3inch's below that and If I remember correctly turn/cancel is the module on the bottom and the reserve/lighting on top.

To disable the reserve lighting device and keep the light in the dash from coming on is pull the ground wire (black/yellow) from the plug on the R.L.D.
Use the method above.

Thanks for the help. I will get into the faring and see what I can accomplish. I will get back to you. FYI, if you wonder which is which on the modules, the reserve lighting module says so right on it. The Turn signal module probably does too but I didn't examine it.
