Members in the Pacific Northwest
I noticed the AVA does not have a chapter in Oregon (or in this region). I was wondering how many AVA members there are around this area and if we had enough interest to explore the idea of starting a chapter. I live in Gresham which is just outside of Portland Oregon.

Re: Members in the Pacific Northwest
Currently, our plans are to move to Grants Pass in June. But, that's about 4 hours away, isn't?

Re: Members in the Pacific Northwest
Yeah, that would be quite a distance between us to try and hold regular meetings.

Well, that's a bit closer than Medford. I know we gotta have several members around this area, how do we figure out who they are?

Re: Members in the Pacific Northwest
I would say to start a new topic in the general topic sections looking for members in the specified area to start. Then as you browse the forum watch for members within your area.6ft1_grand wrote:Well, that's a bit closer than Medford. If doing that once a month is too often, you can Skype meeting every other month (or during bad weather days during winter scheduled meetings). We (at work) do monthly Skype meetings with 4 simultaneous people at a time. I don't remember the max, but it is a way to start. I believe there is another service (don't remember which one) that allows more than Skype does.Me Again wrote:If you meet in the middle ,that's only a 2 hour ride .

If you want, and I am available, I would sit in on your meetings (from Vancouver, WA) just to connect with people from where I grew up (also lived Eugene for 11 years during the 80's). I will be passing thru in June this coming year, but don't have dates yet.
In the late 80's I rode a 79 Yamaha XS1100 with Windjammer (i think) and Samsonite luggage around Oregon to go to meetings (had to be weather flexible). The last 2 summers we have passed thru the state: from Portland to Grants Pass out to Crescent City, CA on our way South; then this last summer over to Astoria and rode down the coast. I have several times done I 84 and also came up from Reno direction going thru Klamath Falls over to Eugene on to Vancouver, WA (where my mother still lives).
I used to have coffee with Ron, but now that he has passed, don't have any connections in the area.
Anyway, wife calls. MERRY CHRISTMAS,
Ken

Re: Members in the Pacific Northwest
When you say....
I lived in Eugene from about 72ish to 89 and then from 94 to 03. Yes, I'm familiar Eugene.
Drop a line when you rumble through this area, I'll hook up and have coffee.
Are you talking about the guy that had the Blue Voyager that looked just like mine? He was from Stayton. If so, I'm kinda bummed about. I bantered with him a little on here last winter (wasn't on here much when riding season started) and I was kinda hoping we could hook up and ride some day. I thought it a bit curious that I haven't seen any posts from him in a while. Anyway, if we're talking about the same Ron, I'm a bit bummed.Me Again wrote:I used to have coffee with Ron, but now that he has passed, don't have any connections in the area.

Re: Members in the Pacific Northwest
Life is too fragile and too precious. I read the obit and found an newspaper article explaining what happened.
I know and I accept that riding a motorcycle is more dangerous than being in a cage. However, somewhere in the back of mind, I think about the possibility of meeting fate every time I ride. In spite of that, I have no intentions of giving it up anytime soon. It's harsh news when the reality of this hits a little closer to home.
Rest In Peace, Ron!!!
