After my bike is in storage , how long should the crank time be before the bike starts? My bike seems like it takes a long time before it even trys to fire. Fuel pump problems?? Ohio Jack

Not sure of a final answer, but mine fires immediately.
Depends to if you drained your carbs.

During Winter storage, gasoline will eventually evaporate from the float bowels. The jets receive vacuum from the pistons, which pulls fuel through the jets, from the float bowels. No fuel in the float bowels, no fuel to be drawn into the cylinders... If I hold the starter for a while, give it a rest (to avoid overheating the starter motor), then hit it again, the fuel pump eventually will fill the float bowels with fuel.

Someone posted previously to let it sit, with the key turned on, for 30-seconds? This allows the fuel pump to push gasoline into the float bowels, before you hit the starter. The ignition is electronic, not points, so no need to worry about burning out points, but I would not leave it on, non-running, for more than one minute, before hitting the starter button. Maybe someone with more knowledge can clarify how long to wait for the bowels to fill? Cheers!

except for the 86 voyagers the fuel pump will not run until the starter button is engaged.
my voyagers when setting for 2 weeks or more will crank for a while before it starts.
you can pull the plug off the starter solenoid or add a switch like some others here then press the starter button until the pump slows up or stops then put the plug back on and the bike will or should start right up.

I added a starter relay shut off switch to my bike several years ago ,Jack.If it sets 5 days or longer,I will open the switch,hit the starter button until the fuel pump stops,close the switch,and it will start like it was run yesterday. Do a search on the forum,and you will find directions on the installation.If you have trouble finding the topic,let me know,and I will find the topic and date it was posted.
