New guy....

Post by Bikes »

Good morning.....new to the forum.....old guy have had many bikes...currently have and ride an xs eleven....have an xs850 on deck to be restored and a harley xl 1200 that I never ride....for sale.......
Always loved the Voyager and have a chance to pick one up, an 86 with a starter issue...dealer says starter clutch...I haven't seen the bike yet and am concerned about the chain vs. the clutch....what should I look for , hear noises etc.....supposedly runs if push started but if it has pieces of chain down there, not sure if its a good idea.....
Its also missing a caliper on front..no big deal.....could get the bike very reasonable but want to know how deep I'm goin....

being a 1986 there's a 95% chance it has a broken starter chain.
If you can get it cheep enough the easiest way to fix it is to swap out the engine with a good one.
All years will fit.

Most folks in those years of bikes get a 1248 ignitor. I happened to have an extra one.

Hey Elite Tourer,
Great quote after your comment ; "When you are dead....." How nice it would be if that message could get around.
