Another new guy in Michigan

Post by 823JIM »

On my way to buy new license plates today. Bought a 2002 Voyager last fall, so really haven't ridden it. The bike needed some TLC, had not seen much care in recent years, but I believe I bought it right. The bike spent some time in the local shop over the winter, (carbs rebuilt, new fuel pump, new coils, and fluids changed) and I have spent a lot of time cleaning and replacing broken or missing parts (ebay). New tires and brakes all the way around, K&N air filter and new windshield also.
I just recently joined the AVA, after discovering this wonderful forum with all its great information and helpful people.
Also hope to get my bag lids from body shop today (being repainted for the normal reason), going to install tethers when putting them back on.
Bike is getting to look pretty nice again, anxiously waiting my first ride of spring.

Thanks to all,
Jim

Sounds like your 2002 was dogged by the previous owner. My 2001 still has the original coils. Was it left out in the weather? Glad to have you aboard though.

I got my bag lids back from body shop yesterday morning, had them mounted with tethers before noon. Paint match is not perfect, but pretty darn close, sure look better than they did. The entire bike is looking pretty good, at least I think so.

Went for first real ride on bike in the afternoon, about 150 miles. Quite pleased, bike seams to run good, everything working(cruise and etc.). Sounds pretty good too, does not have OEM mufflers, has what I think must be Cobra slip-on mufflers.

I am a little rusty, been quite a few years since I have rode, but it is coming back quick.

This has been a winter long restoration project. Bike at one time had a voyager trike (training wheels) kit on it. The wiring on the back half was all hosed up, for wiring on that contraption, but I seem to have that fixed. The trunk was not mounted correctly, resulting in the cast aluminum adjuster mount being broke (ebay replacement). Lots of other little problems, someone without a lot of mechanical ability had been maintaining it.
I attempted to post a picture, not sure it worked. I am not all that great with computers, you know as in, old guy.

Tony, copy the above ( album ) link ) open new window and paste this link into and hit enter. OR just click on it and depending how your web-browser is set it will either redirect to that album or it may open another window.
It will then open up his album to view some very nice pics of the bike.
Looks good.

JIM, Something does not look right with the trunk. It is tilted back. Are the two plastic sliders broken ?

I do not think the sliders are broken, perhaps I still do not have it assembled correctly. I'll take a look at that.

thank you Jim

:perfect10: You nailed it , You done a nice job of bringing this one back to life.
ON that trunk issue, it appears that someone may have installed (trunk extenders ) and either they are bent or something else is amiss .
Paint looks good, bag lids came out nice, don't forget to always lock the trunk latch also, they have been known to pop open also. You got yourself a nice deal on this one.

Also, do I see some plastic ties on the rear speakers. You may still be able to obtain the rubber supports from Kawasaki or partzilla.com
There is an issue there , Is the trunk loose and bouncing around ?
We look forward to see this bike in tip-top condition now that you have the picture posting down pat. :perfect10:
