I believe that Cobra made replacement pipes for these but not sure how much "noise" difference they made.

I think the in-line four makes a nice hum, and it howls or maybe whines when you open it up. Doesn't it have the potato-potato sound of a V-twin. That's fine with me.

The cobra pipes are your best option. and they sound off a bit more , without all the re-tuning of the fuel system. Keep an eye open as they do come up for sale from time to time on several sites.

A touring bike is supposed to be quiet. I will give you a hint in case you missed it. It has a radio. It has quiet pipes. Loud pipes mean you can't hear the radio. Buy a bike without a radio then your loud pipes might make sense.

Or he could just be looking for tone. Like me. It was just this weekend that I took a good look at the exhaust on my bike. Imagine my surprise to see the second "crossover". The one at the "header" I had already seen but not the one back further between the pipes.
Anyway, my plan is to get a set of pipes made to connect the stock head pipe to a set of HD take off pipes. The larger diameter inlet and the free flowing mufflers should make for a nice tone without being obnoxious. This is what I did to my Venture Royale and loved the tone. I may also try to incorporate the second crossover connection. I will probably try D+D Powersports near me. They fabricate their own Arctic Cat engines and exhaust systems. Have been a major player in that area for years. Should be no problem for them to build me a set of connector pipes out of thin wall stainless.
This may have to wait till winter. I am heading off any issue of not being able to hear the stereo first. Clarion marine audio head unit and amp and Kicker 4" front speakers as well as a set in the back should help.
Scars are tattoos with better stories.

Ya know...it may have a radio!.

I may not use the radio that much
.

I'm sure this may irritate ...but.my last bike was a 73 Honda cb750 with open fence post headers and torque that'd snap necks ..

So I'm used to a little more noise ...the fact that I haven't chopped this bike yet ...concerns my buddies lol.

So I may ask questions and you may have answers ...but your ideology on what is the absolute right or wrong may and probably always will be different from mine...

Thanks for the tip on the x-overs

First ,let me say I am one of those who believe a touring bike should be seen and not heard and at one time I even felt adding the cobras was ruining the bike .
That being said I think the hardest part to changing out the exhaust is going to be the turn down.To me it would have to look smooth and not like it was cobbled in.
I put a set of Harley mufflers on a 1300 once and it was so loud I removed them after about 15 seconds. On that big 6 cyl. they were like giant resonators you could hear for 10 blocks. It was even louder than no muffler at all. :windy:

Then I suggest he buy a Harley and gut the pipes. But your obsession with noise is going to come back and bite you on the butt in the end. I worked in EMS and Offshore on drilling rigs for years around high noise. I have hearing loss now and tinnitus so bad I wished I had used ear plugs more often. I have a nephew with a Harley and loud pipes and I have tried preaching to him what he is doing to his hearing. He ignores me and someday when he is my age he will regret it also.

This was my bike before I bought the Voyager. Image
This was the pic I sent my sent my buddy right after I bought it. Yea that's a circular saw. Image
So I feel the frustration of riding something not loud and without cutting it up.

Why in the world would I think I'm smarter than anyone else. Just saying that this is my first luxury bike ever and that I felt the same way. I gave a good hard look at the exhaust to see if I could make it louder. If you've ever had a car not see you and you hit that throttle and their neck snaps around you'll know why loud pipes saves lives. Just saying.

A good quality horn like this Wolo air horn http://wolo-mfg.com/horns/air-horns/mod ... hrome.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is all you need Ive replaced my horn with this and it wakes up the driver better than any loud bike exhaust.

Love the CB 750, what a good looking bike (real tough to tour on). I am not ready to try the skilsaw method on my exhaust. I know that the Cobra pipes were mentioned, hard to come by, but are really the only aftermarket pipes I have seen.
I personally would not go with open pipes, but sure would not mind something that was a little throatier sounding.

I understand some people love to hear their bikes .It's an awesome sound when done in moderation .
A friend of mine riding his Harley chopper with open exhaust ,died when a car pulled out in front of him. Loud did him no good ,an extra set of lights may have given him a chance .
Sorry . You touched a nerve

I have Cobra pipes on Team Green they are not much louder then the stock pipes until you wind it up, then they roar. They do not sound like a crouch rocket.
Team green seems to run better then my other Voyager, The only difference engine wise is the pipes.
My opinion on loud or not, It's your bike make it the way you want it.
