NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
Well after 245,000 miles of road on two bikes, the grim reaper done his best to get me. I have always found an escape route , even pulling the trailer at 80mph. But this time there was no where but oncoming traffic to go to.. A rather low speed hit on a four lane, highway with a center lane as two way turn lane. I was in that lane slowing from about 55mph to about 45mph, to make a left , when a woman turned right into me also making a left turn as in OH I turn here.....I did not see you..... No way to avoid her as traffic was coming in the opposite direction. ground my boot down to the foot, and lucky for me I rode it out most of the way on my back wallet pocket. Done a quick roll to get myself back into the turn lane , as not to get run over and rode it out on my right boot.
All the time watching many parts getting ground down or strewn off the bike. No broken bones and no other injuries other than the meat off the foot. And a wrecked bike. Now I know how far one can slide down a highway on ones back side. Hope the pool is nice at the rally , cause that's were I'll be...

Sorry to hear your news. It's a shame on a number of levels. At least you weren't seriously injured.
Going to get another?
Either way, here's wishing you a quick recovery.

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
No not at all, my front tire was at her door as I was next to her. all lanes were coming to a stop at the intersections red light. As a result , and her not having a turn signal on yet I came up alongside of her to turn into a business. Her front left tire came right into my front crash bar, and seeing the ones speeding up , beating the traffic light I had no choice but to hug into her SUV. But once her front tire hit my rear crash bar I knew I could not hold it up and it kicked me down on the right side pushing me from the turn lane into traffic. Did not have any room or time to joggle around her. And I wanted no parts of a head on with speeding cars running thru the changing light. I have stood at that intersection at the local WAWA shop and watched most , floor the gas to get thru the 4 second yellow. Her mirror took a shot from my shoulder and the bike tore the fender skirt and blew out her front tire. Man can these bikes take a hit. I will hobble out to the shop tonight once the alcohol and local numbing stops on the foot and take some pictures. I figure about 2,600 in parts to get it back on the road , but my rally trip by bike is not going to happen.Tonyvdb wrote:Oh wow Gene, that's unfortunate. Gene reading the first post I was glad that you were able to make the post. That is just how quick thing can happen and some one can ruin good day
. I'm sure that was the nice version as there were many other words that I'm sure you could have used.
Glad to here that you are still planning on making it to the rally even though you wont have your bike.
Have a speedy recovery

Oh boy, glad to hear you made it out of this relatively unhurt as this could have been much worse. Heal fast and hopefully you can get another bike soon.ekap1200 wrote: No not at all, my front tire was at her door as I was next to her. all lanes were coming to a stop at the intersections red light. I know and look how good a morning I was having, your fender skirt is a half hour away from being done, the rally metal art is taking on a nice look and then.Lucasind wrote:Such horrible news Gene , thank god you are all right ! As I read the progression of your post ....

Well at least from the front view it don't appear to bad,
until you look at the side view.

Tina and I are glad you are still in one piece. Bikes can be fixed or replaced, but your one of a kind and can not be replaced Gene!
Tina said she will sit by the pool for a while herself. We will be driving to the rally ourselves this year while Tina is in between surgeries.

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
If it would have been if it was on the left side, ..... but it had a very low speed drop on its right side, I can salvage the foot peg, front crash bar, passenger floor board, maybe the lower bag (they are both off in the storage shed I will have to look) and if the upper shock stud is wacked the rear frame is usable. also the bag frame can be salvaged. I was only 2 miles from home and drove the bike home before going to the ER. Nothing leaked on the way home but blood from my foot. Must have fuel washed one of the plugs as she started rough and is not idling up to par. And the voltmeter shows a bit lower than usual. I may hobble out there again and pull the battery cable.Lucasind wrote:Thanks for hobbling out to the garage to take those pictures for us Gene, Is your free parts bike that you came here to Ohio to get ,gonna be of any help to you on your repair efforts ?
So I will be needing most of the 2000's right front cowling upper and lower, bag/lid (or lid and lower bag ) Kim's bike accident with the dear was much worse than mine, and so was he. May take a while to get this one back to where it was. Not a scratch on my helmet but my arse is getting sore.
I am becoming a bit sore on my side, the adrenaline is subsiding and reality is setting in on how fortunate I was to avoid a real bad day.

Sorry to hear about the accident but glad you didn't suffer any major physical injuries. Bummer about the bike but it can be fixed or replaced. And a big ole thanks to the Good Lord you don't need a lot of fixing up!!

Thanks , I will see how I feel in the morning and start looking at what I have here just to make it roadworthy enough for the ride up. If I end up with some used scratched items, and its seems good mechanically sound, I want to ride...cushman eagle wrote:Gene,I thank God,you were able to tell us about your accident![]()

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
Gene, by now you know just how sick in the stomach it makes any of us feel when we hear of a fellow biker involved in an accident let alone when it's one of our friends/fellow AVA'ers!
Please know that both Beth and I hope you heal fast and complete. Scars last a life time and sadly are reminders of what has happened. Luckily you are alive and to the most part whole (I'm assuming your body is still whole)!
Don't rush anything when it comes to healing/mending and recuperating. If there's anything I can do let me know. Till then I'll pray you heal and that she remembers for the rest of her life just how close she came to taking a life.
Heal fast friend......

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
So sorry to hear you've joined the club no one wants to be a part of. I slid 350 feet at 60 mph before coming to a stop. That was 12 years ago. It all seemed to have been in slow motion and it's a memory that will stay with me forever. I used to believe that accidents could be avoided. There's not many vxii accident survivors out there. So glad you are still with us and able to share. As time goes by, more details may come to mind. Hopefully you will have more insight that may help one of us from having a similar experience.
Vivian & I thank God for protecting you from what could have been a far worse conclusion.

So glad to hear you are mostly OK. You may have another bike to pull parts from, but another Gene can't be found on Craigslist or eBay! Not even OLD, used parts! LOL! I KNOW! I've looked for spare parts for me! Mine are just too old!
My fingers are crossed that you can cobble the bike back together enough to make the rally on two wheels.
A prayer of thanks and praise has been said for your safety!

Gene, we on this forum feel like family, even if we have never met in person. I feel I know who you are from the words and work you post. Like many others before me, I'm so sorry this happened. But I'm glad that someone upstairs was looking out for you and you came away with what appears to be managable injuries and a repairable bike. It could have been much worse. We on this forum are pulling for a fast recovery. As it has already been said, the bike can be fixed or replaced, but thank God you are still with us.
