How can this happen?

Post by trikebldr »

This is enough to make a grown man cry! I had a '71 XS650.
Actually, I DO know how this can happen! I parked my dune buggy trailer in the back corner of our yard for 8 years and neglected the weeds around it for that long. They grew up around the wheels and axle and engulfed them completely. It took me about four hours to cut the trailer loose! My weeds didn't get as big as this "tree" did around this bike, though! Mine got about 4" diameter at the base and pushed through the 3/4" ply floor of the trailer, then lifted one side about 6" off the ground.
But, I would never let this happen to a nice bike like this one once was! My trailer is already back in good shape! It would take days with a sawzall and a dremel tool to cut this bike out.

I think this now called lawn art. If seen old restorable bikes made into mailboxes and worse. Guess that is what happens when one doesn't know how to keep them going but can't bare to let go of the memories.

Not much worse than my uncle buying new an XS500 Yamaha, putting less than 2000 miles on it and allowing it to rust to pieces in a leaky garage. He was too stubborn to ever sell it because several times in the 80's I asked him when I was in East Texas where he lived. So it sat there and rotted. What a waste.
