Always bad to hear of anyone in a bike accident. Glad to know that you will be OK. I'm sure you are extra thankful that you did not have a passenger! Get well and hope you can get bike going soon.

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
I just want to thank all of you for you support and kind words and blessings.
As I lay here today wondering why I am not more upset at the condition of the bike, I remembered one year and one week ago yesterday, I knelt by a man who had a pickup turn in front of him. I was right behind him when the bike hit and went literally to pieces. I watched this fellow rider take his last breath on this earth, and with that thought in mind today, I do thank God that I was able to walk away from this one. Same road , but 10 miles east of where my accident happened. It made me become a more concerned rider but nothing can predict what can happen out on the road.

Now there is a great AVA member ! Help a brother out when he is down !
Gene, on another kinda side tracked maybe...(you decide) ALL is not lost here for YOU being on two wheels for the rally !,,,, If you and Marie ,just get to my house in your car.... you can pick from my stable what you want to ride up to the rally ! I would suggest that you choose the F/I 1400 connie

If that ain't to your liking .... you can always choose to go up to the rally "ol' school" and ride my 1300 . How many 1300 Voyagers might be in attendance this year ?
I heard from a very reliable source, that Bruce will not be attending the rally with his 1300 this year.
So...picture yourself on this ....HEY . it has the back rest that you sold me !

I will buy some "hi-way pegs" and install them, cause it ain't got any on it yet !
OK GENE , now this will be my LAST and FINAL offer ! just cause I feel SO bad for you about your bike getting busted up, you can roll into Hurley in me panel truck !...
however......you gotta pay all fuel expenses ..... cause good fuel mileage on this street rod just AIN'T
hapn'

You decide and think it over ....I will do the same ,and see if I can come up with any other options for you to choose from !

Gene,
I'm so glad you will recover ok. It's really bad when it happens but when you realize you have all your body parts and they function that's a relief. Been there a couple of times and it's no fun. You can rebuild your bike. I did and it came out better than new. Now I have 2. It took me 2 years to recover and slowed me down a lot. But thank god your with us to tell us about it.
Hang in there. We,ll talk at the rally.

Gene I just wanted to add my name to the list of people who are glad you survived that wreck. We just memorialized a friend who died last month on a bike. Now I think about this every time I ride. We would be missing a valuable individual if something bad happened to you. Just be careful and take care.

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
Thanks again everyone. here is a news update. I am doing my best to ride this bike to the rally. I have been approved as being more than capable by the Ins. Co.'s Claims Service Adjuster. It took having a custom bike builder shop owner to call the claims office on my behalf. One hour later and things began to move ahead. Low and behold , Saturday between 10:30 and 1:30 the claim adjuster showed up. We spent over an hour as he enjoyed my shop and talked and looked around, and he is a MC owner, prior mechanic, body man. So bottom line is they really don't want to go thru the totaling and having me buy back the bike if they can avoid it. Lots of paperwork, and their money. He approved my labor rate of 48.00 an hour, and they will send a check directly to me. Tomorrow a trip to Stirling VA. and acquire front items needed. Carl Leo's package arrived today with a good used and straight rear crash bar. Intermediate frame was damaged. Damn near pulled the weld on threaded boss clean off the frame. Had one here that passed , form/fit/function QC and as the roxio photo show link shows went on without a hitch. Idle still has a hick up, but didn't get the vacuum gauge to it yet. I did change out the pick up coil towards the end of the day , that harness runs behind the front crash bar lower attachment point, and was ,,,,well a bit pinched. Had I made and installed a front crash bar cross bar, this would have ended up with radiator damage and even more plastic cracked. Not having tethers on the saddle bag lid also saved the lid as it just popped off and came up onto my lap as I slid down the road, more than likely saved the trunk by not staying and getting jammed up there. Still lots of costly damage if parts were obtained thru a dealer . about 3k in parts.
And its the second day I can wear a shoe on the right foot.
Healing but still swollen a bit.

Good to hear about and see the progress toward getting the bike back together as well as your foot. What was the extent of injury to the foot? Will it be completely better by rally time? I guess you can tell Tony to just keep his ole 1300 for the rally!

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
With a shoe on my injured foot , I drove all day to obtain some more items needed. I spent as much time stopped in traffic as I did driving. Both there and back. Bad weather and the cagers keep talking , weaving, and plain out speeding with heavy rain and poor visibility. 50% of them can not keep a car, truck or bus in their lane.....all on the toys chatting away to who knows ..cushman eagle wrote:I am really glad to hear that both ,you and the bike, are on the mend![]()

Very disturbing, so many accidents today. When I got home at 6:30 I was more exhausted than driving the bike 900 miles. I only went 398 miles

Now I just need to do a formal estimate of time and material and submit it to the claims dept. And then I can really get to getting it back together. The intermediate frame was the biggie, and that's in and tight. No time for the hitch repair but I am not pulling the trailer this year.
More news updates as they happen.

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!
Hi Jim, Healing up but still swollen and sore. bike is back together but with Idle issues. From the scene of the wreck it was a bit hard to start and I though it had fouled a plug. changed plugs when it was apart and it had cleared up after a few times of draining the carbs. first road test of ten miles, cold start, just as always, ran the 10 miles and returned home and it just didn't idle well. checked vacuum823JIM wrote:In need of an update! 7.5~7.0~8.0~8.0 Its been this far off before at times and didn't idle as it does now.
adjusted and road test again. Runs down the road nice, smooth in 5th gear down to just under 2k. even lugging the engine all seemed well , but I am unhappy with the unsteady idle. It seems to come and go. Perhaps I have a bad wire at one cap. Has to be something I have missed. I'm not running at 100% and perhaps just need to step away from it for a few days. I have been muti-tasking and not giving 100% to any of the jobs here, along with loosing sleep from discomfort. Need to rest and get a clear head to think this one thru.
No coolant or oil leaks, no loss of power on the road, no sputtering or dead miss, bike looks good and tracks down the road fine. Rushing the repairs I may have overlooked something. I still have time before we leave and may have it solved by then

Re: NO escape route this time. bike wreck !!!!

Turns out that all the crap laying in the seam of the tank got sucked into the new fuel filter , when she laid down. ( or at least , stirred up a bit ) Didn't look new , and I don't have 1,000 miles on it. So she must have stuck and wet the #3 plug. Not enough for a dead miss, but poor idle. RPL 's all four plugs with new, another bowl purging and went back over the sync, another new fuel filter, and off on the road I went. When I got back-----Idle is where it always has been.
Must have purged at least a quart of gas out the bowls in the last two weeks....
