Some Questions Before Purchasing

Hi Everyone,

I have some questions regarding the Voyager 1700, that I am hoping some of you may be able to answer. The dealership wasn't too keen on spending that much time with me to answer these questions in detail...

1. I am a big guy (6'2", 300lbs) and I see the settings for the bike are set to 150lb riders out of the factory. I see the rear shock is adjustable on the air pressure and dampening, but my concern is the load may be too much for 2-up. Are there aftermarket adjustable shocks/spring setups for this bike, or is it really not much of a concern once I increase the PSI?

2. I plan on using the Kawi comm system upgrades for XM (no CB though). What I would really like to do is listen to XM radio, and be able to use my phone through my headset. My wife only rides with me on occasion, so I am not too concerned about driver/passenger comms. Is it possible to use my phone with the kawi setup? I have both an iPhone and Android, so brand isn't much of a concern if that means anything.

3. I can't find any data on the alternator, so I am unsure if heated grips and seats will cause a massive drain on the electrical system.

I'm 6'4" and 300, and find the rear suspension is likely the least capable part of the 1700 voyager. riding solo, i'll have damping at 4 and shock pressure at about 35psi with nothing else on board.

i had a '00 nomad that had progressive rear, that was cat's pajamas. ebay shows them for the voyager, though have no experience with them.

BTW, i find that the mustang one-piece saddle with backrest, 4" risers, and kuryakin board peg mounts make the most comfort of any bike i've ever had.
Just be aware that the stock seat makes for a softer, lower ride (it's mounted on something like a sling).

I have had the wife on board, but the mustang seat shrinks the passenger space, and the original passenger seat, frankly, wasn't anywhere near the comfort for her as the gold wings i've ridden. Now that she's 'matured', my riding's solo anyway.
Don't tell her, but I'm not sure anything is of sufficient dimension to fit her any more!

I have a 1700 voyager. I usually ride 2 up with the wife. That would be around 400 lbs. Going to the rally we had saddlebags full and trunk full plus a kuryakyn roll bag with at least 30 lbs in it on the trunk rack. Needless to say we had plenty of weight. The bike rode as smooth as could be and we had no problems with over 2000 miles to the rally and back. Didn't really notice a difference loaded or not. Hope this helps.

Oh and just to add. I run 20 psi in the shocks and have never touched the dampners. I have the kawasaki gel seats and while not as good as a daylong. they work well and are not as expensive. I also have the ipod adapter and listen to that exclusively. it's much more economical than the xm.

First I would like to welcome you and that 1300 to the forum.
Running the damper at 4 with only 300lbs on board is probably giving you a very stiff ride. try dropping it back down to 3 and maybe put a couple extra lbs of air in.
By the way, we definitely want to welcome the 1700 also.
