Cruise Control ?s
On my new to me Voyager, I fixed the speedometer hub and everything works as it should but the cruise control.
Before my question, my choke cable is broken and I have no idea if these are related. If so, I guess that should be fixed first.
Anyway, I turn it on and the light on the tank comes on, I go to set it and nothing else happens - no additional light/no feel of it working at all. Is there an order that I need to follow to troubleshoot this thing? Thanks!

Re: Cruise Control ?s
You also need to be going above about 35MPH.There are several switches that can also fail and cause the C/C not to work. There is a download available that gives insight on how to diagnose the system. When I bought my VXII,the C/C was unreliable until I set the rear brake switch, and has been reliable since, but worked more accurately after I set the C/C actuator cable freeplay.

Re: Cruise Control ?s
I was going 55 to 60+ in 5th gear!
I guess I'll have to do some digging. I was hoping someone could provide an order to what I should check and where these things are located.
Thanks!

Re: Cruise Control ?s
Hello from NJ. As Loren stated get yourself the download. In the mean time make sure no one has taken All the free play out of the throttle cables as it will engage the switch on the carb/cancel switch. And the front brake lever also is an issue most find. Two switchs are located there, one for brake , one for cancel. Listen for two clicks from both.
If it works from doing that but is not setting at the speed your setting, then you will have to remove the right side plastic and adjust the free play at the servo.

Re: Cruise Control ?s
Had the same problem with my 03. Found it to be the brake lever. Bushing was worn enough that that it wouldn't make the CC switch. Get yourself a shop manual. Great step by step troubleshooting. Also for any other issue. Good luck.

Re: Cruise Control ?s
If you're going to adjust the cable, be sure to unplug the control module on the left side. I killed mine by not doing that.

Re: Cruise Control ?s
See if HighwayRider can point you in the right direction to find them I think Mr.Jensee had them listed for a while, but I have not seen them lately I bought a hard copy shortly after I got the bike, and it is very valuable in diagnosing and repairing the occasional problem

Re: Cruise Control ?s
My mistake I thought I used the service manual to diagnose my CC problem until I could not find CC in my manual this morning. The info is in Carl Leo's cruise control/electrical CD instead. The manual is for the '86 bikes, not the newer ones.

Re: Cruise Control ?s
The manual does have a way to test the CC, it's just a little hard to tell. Id' have to look again, but we found it in there.

Re: Cruise Control ?s
HI Gary , I would say that is nine out of ten , the problem , being the front brake lever.starrider wrote:Had the same problem with my 03. Found it to be the brake lever. I did have one here, that tested my patience , in the control harness , right where it bends downward over the triple tree. It had an intermittent open. And a few that the owners adjusted their throttle cables to tight.

Re: Cruise Control ?s
@aladinbama - having the same prob with my '89, and I haven't had time to start diagnosing yet...evidently the cc looks for the light on the dash that comes on when you hit 5th gear indicating you are in high gear...mine's not coming on, and I still have not had the time (or the means) to get it up on a lift to get to the lower-left of the motor to check the wiring contacts for the high-gear light...is your 5th-gear light on the dash coming on?

Re: Cruise Control ?s
I had two issues going on with mine. The brake switch Gene is talking about was dirty and not clicking. Also the cable were to tight and the connectors to the right handle bar controls were pulled off the connections. They were just resting against the connectors and intermittently contacting as I went down the road.
