Great weather

Post by Highway Rider »

With the temps in the mid 60's to 70 here in the mid west it is almost like and early spring. But we all know how fickle Mother Nature can be, tease you temps like this and then just as a reminder takes you back in reality and reminds use that it is still winter. She can be a real tease.

My wife (peg) would not be up for rides this soon either. However i did pull the bike out this week. Ive ridden the 10 mile to work every day and plan on doing so until mother nature shuts me down with snow and salt trucks.

Hate to rain on your parade, ( ) but we have been having rain since January. Some of the dams have been at the brink of failure, many are at 98% plus capacity, like the dam at Lake Orville about 50 miles north of Sacramento, and it rained off and on again today. At dusk, the sky was clear, but the weather man says more coming. Monday last, we had 10 inches of rain. Had an overflow spillway fail, at Orville and several thousand people were evacuated. It was a muddy mess. Google Orville Dam in California. It is the tallest earthen dam in the US, at 770 feet, and helps drain the Sacramento river basin, the second largest area west of the rockies, after the Columbia river basin. .
Last summer, I was not allowed to water my lawn, due to the drought. So all you mid westerners be aware.....the clouds are moving east from California...........I'm glad you are all having good weather.

Well we managed to get in a decent 87 mile ride today. Just enough to sort out any issues before we head for New Orleans on thursday. :woohoo:

Im not delusional. The weather in the mid west can change on a dime and it's way to early to think spring has sprung. Just taking advantage of some unseasonal riding opportunity.
Ive heard California is getting unheard of rain and the lakes and reservoirs are full. I hope you guys out there can keep your heads above water.

What a great weekend indeed ! Got in 240 miles on the 03', but got a decent ride in on 6 of the other bikes in the stable , adding some fresh fuel to each. .....Had to laugh, the gal at the local Sunoco station asked "how many motorcycles do you have " ? :woohoo:
Other than work on and ride motorcycles ....I didn't do a darn thing ALL weekend !

I finished up on some things to do on the 1200 at about 3 pm Sunday and headed out. It was 72 deg and it was what I needed. Came back at around 6 pm with 128 on the odometer . Not a cloud in the sky.

I.m with ya Gene .....Your comment "it was what I needed" was on everyone's mind around here also ! I do not remember a time in my life seeing so many bikes on the road here ! I think anyone that had a bike ...was on it this weekend here in Toledo. and that beautiful blue sky ! Oh Yeah !

Image

We rode S.W. along the river to another city ....stopped for lunch , then just kept going ! There had to have been 30 bikes here at this place called the "Mail Pouch" ,so of course I pulled in ! Riders tend to know where to find a good place to eat ! We had that same blue sky here ,that you had there 580 miles away !

Two weeks ago I was in a traffic accident where an old man ran a light and plowed into me. My car was totaled and I sustained damage to my chest from impacting the steering wheel. I have been in too much pain to mount a motorcycle and haven't really wanted to, even though the weather here in Louisiana has been very spring like with mild temps and sunshine. I don't know when I will be able to ride again. I hope soon. But it may still be months away. So much for climate change eh? No winter here.

Overnight temps in the low 30's woke up this morning to a clear sky, but cold. At 1:00PM, it's now 60 degrees. Had to refinish a kitchen table and chairs, so no riding, but still, the dams have stopped leaking, the river banks have stopped overspilling, life's good.
I don't think there is a road or hiway in California that isn't damaged, route 50 and route 80 were closed in some places because the pavement caved in due to water running under it. We lost a fire truck last week that slipped off the edge, and several cars that dissappeared into a sink hole.

Come on June!

Sorry to hear of the accident, this could have been much worse if you were on your bike instead of in your car. Hope you recover soon and back out again on the bike.
All this warm weather talk is making me jealous as we had a nice week of warm weather but there is too much gravel on the roads to be safe on a bike.
Soon I hope

Mike, sorry to hear about your car accident. From your injuries described, your lucky to have been in a car instead of the bike.
The weather here yesterday was great , So I put in over 160 miles in your honor. :-D

Thanks Gene and Tony. Yes I think if this had happened on the bike no doubt I would have been dead. I am slowly healing but it will probably be a few more weeks until I can ride the bike without pain. Thanks Gene for riding in my honor. I will live it vicariously LOL. In the mean time I will enjoy my new /used car replacement. Good to know there is a lot of good riding weather out there. I hope my buddy Leo now in Florida gets out and rides some too.
