Making a "Voyagequero"
Hello all from a new owner. Sold my 2011 Concours, and bought a 2012 Voyager. I really liked the Vaquero "bagger" look, but wanted all the front fairing and other features that came on the Voyager. Because I like the front fairing as well, I decided not to go with a Nomad.
So, I plan on removing the Trunk intact so I can put it back to stock, fabricating a rear rack to take it's place, and installing a replacement LED light bar on the back with some visibility flashing capabilities for running and stop light functions. I have checked out the parts diagrams, and I know I can buy the rear "pigtail" connectors and wires that go to the stock light bar for only $30, so I can keep the factory wiring harness and connectors stock.
I know I am new to the forum, and maybe this has been covered as a topic, but any help would be appreciated. I will plan on taking pictures during the process. Thanks.

Go to general chat and then to Evaluations of Genuine Kawasaki Accessories. The first bike you will se is mine but go down farther on the tread and you will see Davids that he has played with it looks good you might pic his brain.

Re: Making a "Voyagequero"
Thanks. I took a look. I could not find a way to contact 1700 Guy directly on the members page. My next post will be after I have made some progress, and have decided whether to use the original trunk frame, or fabricate my own for a rear rack and a place to hold a light bar. I am flushing the clutch and brake systems and replacing the fluids with Amsoil synthetic dot 4 right now. When I get to the rear brake, I will be pulling the trunk and side bags for access to the rear caliper. I will also be checking the drive belt tension while I am in there. I saw a post on another forum about loosening the belt a little more than spec transmitting less engine/gearbox vibration to the frame to the rear wheel. I will check the 1700 technical forum for info on that.

Re: Making a "Voyagequero"
Duane,
I was wondering about doing the same thing. I'd like to convert the tourpak to quick-detach so I can do with a solo seat and stripped down look when riding one up.
Do you have any recommendations?
Thanks!

Re: Making a "Voyagequero"
Here's my trim pieces that cover the side bag frames before going to the powder coater. Note that the antenna is mounted, and the black lines on the pieces. A 45 led flexible strip array will be mounted at those locations to take the place of the trunk led light. I have the led strips connected to the trunk light wiring through a Skene Design controller that flickers in the tail light mode and flashes in the brake light mode. They are all tested and ready to go. I really hope that the "I never saw the motorcycle" in the accident report happens to me. At least from behind or the side. The "conspicuity" flicker is actually more pronounced in a person's peripheral vision.

Transformation Complete
Trim pieces that cover the side bag frame are back from the powder coater and installed with antenna and LED strip lights that replace the trunk light bars. I have also installed the Kawasaki chrome side bag top guards. I will post a full length pic of it out in the sun on the next post.

Re: Making a "Voyagequero"
I definitely prefer the Voyager 3 light fairing over the Vaquero's 2 slotted vent one. It just looks much more like it should look.

Re: Making a "Voyagequero"
I did a Voyager / Vaquero several years ago.
Now that I have added the CB it is harder to make the transition back to vaquero style.
I need to come up with some brackets to hold the antennas.

Re: Making a "Voyagequero"
David (N. Alabama)'s bike pics are what actually inspired me to buy a Voyager and turn it into a bagger, instead of getting a Vaquero or a Nomad. I loved the look. Thanks David.

Re: Making a "Voyagequero"
Just a thought...
After test riding a VN1700 Voyager, I was surprised that the saddlebags were so much smaller inside than they looked from the outside. I was wondering if the later Vaquero saddlebags would fit. Also opening from the side, they would be more accessible wouldn't they?

I don't see why not. Aren't they both basically the same motorcycle? And guys those conversions are awesome.stevejinde wrote:Just a thought...
