Gonna shoot my bike! Don't try to stop me!

Post by NSASarge »

I'm gonna do it! Really I am! Prolly on the Good Friday three day weekend. I've got from now till then to make the preparations. I've decided on a nice GM/Corvette yellow with metal flake and enough clear to keep minor scratches from getting through to the color. At least ... that's the plan. I've been wanting to do this since I bought it, but, decided to wait till I got a few more bugs on it. Gonna start with the disassembly and debadging of all the bits. I plan to build a makeshift paint booth in my 2-car garage with painters plastic and 2x4's with a box fan blowing air in through a furnace filter. Harbor Freight has a pair of paint guns that will do just fine ... so I'm told. It's all in the prep, so I'll take photos and keep y'all posted.

Ya had me believing it for a minute until I read the entire post.
I first pictured you standing at the bike : gun in hand with one foot on the bikes tank while it lay on its with mortal injuries.

David,
As part of your prep, Wet everthing down with water, no matter how well you clean and vacuum, you will still get dust and bugs in the paint. Also, do it safe, wear a mask so you don't paint your lungs.

I pretty much have it all figured out. I have painted small items before and I have all the safety stuff ... respirator, head-2-toe paint suit, gloves, goggles etc.. Most poly paints are now water base and they dry harder that spirit types. Clean-up is a snap. I'm figuring 2 quarts of color and 2 of clear should do it. Feel free to chime in if anyone else has advice! Um yeah ... we like yellow.
