BEST RPM FOR MPG

Post by ohiojack »

Is it best to keep my rpm's on the 1700 above 2800-3000 for the best performance and miles per gallon. Bucking the wind in 5th gear the bike seems like its lugging. ohiojack :hmm:

When stock I always ran in 6th gear at 2200 to 2300 rpm to get the best mileage. Running into headwinds it didn't matter 5th or 6th gear mileage was always bad. because of the torque the 1700 produces it can run low RPM.

Just keep playing with different RPM, coming from a 4 cylinder these low RPM's feel like you're lugging the engine. I rarely run my engine past 3,000 RPM, only when pulling my Time Out trailer fully loaded in the mountains trying to maintain my speed I'd run engine speed to 3,500 RPM. My gas mileage was terrible in the high 20's.
