Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
All,
Just checking to see if anyone has found a replacement hose for 39062-1149 as it has become obsolete. I am doing service on all the hoses on my 1998 Voyager and would like to replace all the coolant hoses as my bike has 76,500 miles and I am sure it will fail at some point.
Thanks,
Brad

Brad, according to Ron Ayers (I like ordering parts from them as they are faithful and a little less than other sources):ComputerGeek59 wrote:All, Just checking to see if anyone has found a replacement hose for 39062-1149 as it has become obsolete. Part has been superceded by 39062-1220 (see diagram if that's your hose), cost $17.80 plus shipping.

Ron, I appreciate the post but I don't think this is the hose that I am looking for. It is 39062 in the picture of the following link http://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/kaw/ ... water-pumpghostler wrote:Brad, according to Ron Ayers (I like ordering parts from them as they are faithful and a little less than other sources):ComputerGeek59 wrote:All, Just checking to see if anyone has found a replacement hose for 39062-1149 as it has become obsolete. Brad, that it interesting, first time I saw parts numbers that were not unique for distinctly different parts. I clicked "add to cart" and it added to cart, so it looks like it is in stock. I believe they are a dealer. If you call them, they can verify that for sure.ComputerGeek59 wrote:ghostler wrote:I appreciate the post but I don't think this is the hose that I am looking for. Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
After placing order after order, which took my money, only to get an email next day saying "Out of stock, discontinued", and exhausting Canada and Japan, guess I'm down to McGiver something. I'm wondering if anyone has used any of the radiator flex hoses? The gates hoses at O'Reilly only go to 1 1/2" ID, where the 39062-1149 is 1" ID. (7/8"?)
Thinking of two 90 deg hoses spliced with 2" tube?
Or a flexible hose with a spring inside so when it's bent, it doesn't kink? (Thinking water flow might not be adequate?)
Saw picture in another thread that might be my saving grace, if all else fails.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Dbb3;
go down to the thread "Cooling Hoses" in this section and on page 2 you can see what I came up with.
Your idea of 2 ninety degree pieces of 7/8" (22mm), hose would probably work as well if not better, less clamps.
The problem I had was trying to find 7/8" OD connectors/elbows.
Anyhow, my Frankenstein hose may work for you, but I haven't trial fitted one yet so there may be some fanangling needed to clear the various frame/cable components with that first elbow after the cylinder head outlet pipe.

Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
BTW, reason why I mentioned to call for example Ron Ayers customer service before ordering, is they are also a dealer and can verify whether a part is truly available or not. Sometimes there are disconnects between the on-line ordering system and the dealer parts inventory system.
Here's a few ideas that might help. I'll know more when I'm at that spot others are in.
There are 90 degree PEX brass elbow fittings. They come in 1/2-in, 3/4-in, and 1-in diameters, have ridges that would allow a hose clamp to firmly clamp heater hose on the end, cost are less than $4 US apiece. These are available at most home improvement centers and hardware plumbing stores.

Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
The other alternative is to grab up the hoses you need to replace and take them down to your favorite auto parts place and look through their stock of hoses .
When you find one that has the correct bends take it home and lop off the unneeded section and there you go .
Might be a little time consuming but will only cost about half Kawasaki hoses .

Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
Thanks for the comments guys.
Picked up a couple of pieces with same bend but silly me thinking I can finagle a 3/4" tube over a 7/8" pipe, with zero room to finagle.
Your Frankenstein piece at least gave me hope, Triton, and also like Ghost idea of 90 degree brass fitting. That or two 90 degrees spliced. Straight tubing to ribbed brass fittings sounds like the easiest to me.
She's only 31, not ready to be put to pasture quite yet. (my bike that is, me is another story :)_ )

The 90 degree PEX elbow works. Here's an example on my 1999 Chev S10 pickup.

Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
I think the 90 degree is the way to go, Ghostler.
Of course, the 90 degrees only comes in 3/4" or 1", no such 7/8" on the planet it seems.
Guessing some kind of silicone wrap might take up the difference? Teflon? Something that won't disintegrate with time.
Now the trick is getting a 22 mm hose , 7/8" to fit. I found lots of 3/4", which was too small.
time to order all the other hoses, see if I can alter one, I'm hoping.

Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
Rubber hoses are flexible. An option may be to purchase a couple sizes. Then take your heater hose you intend to use, and see which fits best. Keep the one you don't intend to use clean and return it for refund. That's what I did for the S10. Other solution is take a small section of your heater hose to the store, and see which PEX fitting fits best, skip the return for refund.Dbb3 wrote:I think the 90 degree is the way to go, Ghostler. Auto parts stores sometimes have 90 heater hose elbows, but they are made of plastic. Some time ago I installed a flush fitting on my old 1990 Dodge D150 pickup heater hose. After a couple years, the plastic deteriorated and needed replacement, so I am not so keen on using plastic fittings.
I can't remember the PEX size I used, but with trial and error you should be able to find something that works. If it is just a slight touch loose, I wouldn't go the tape route, good way for pressure to cause it to slide / unravel. A tightened hose clamp will solve that issue. One thing to keep in mind is that the ribs on the PEX hose end are smaller than standard hose fittings. You'll want to get it snugged up pretty good, so there is no chance it will pop off when you least expect it.

Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
My left hand 39062-1149 blew on my 02 Voyager. Called several parts dealers including Ron Ayers. 39062-1149 and 39062-1150 no longer available. Went to a couple of auto parts stores to try to match up something close. There hoses are a lot more money than Kawasaki hoses. Also no close match. Going to have to Jerry rig something. That's ashame Kawasaki stopped supplying hoses for the voyager. Such a commen part to go bad.

John Deere offers 7/8" ID elbow hoses, part number R50403,for $15.76 each. They are 1" radius,2.18"long one leg,,and 3.11" long the other.Could you install a straight tube between them and get what you want? These were used on the 1973-1977 4630 tractor to feed water to the intercooler.

Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
I think that sounds like a great solution. I am planning to replace my hoses at some time in the not to distant future and if there is no longer a viable hose I will need to do something. The Frankenstein hose combo with this part should do the trick.cushman eagle wrote:John Deere offers 7/8" ID elbow hoses, part number R50403,for $15.76 each. They are 1" radius,2.18"long one leg,,and 3.11" long the other.Could you install a straight tube between them and get what you want? Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
Sorry on the above. Wasn't sure if pics would post.
As the 39062-1149 LH was discontinued, I was able to get a 39062-1150, cut it exactly in half, and using a 45 brass fitting, spin and now your RH cooling hose is a LH cooling hose. The straight brass fitting left a gap, but the 45 fit almost perfect.
I guinea pigged my LH damaged hose to make sure it all fit, before I destroyed the new RH hose.
Two hoses with a 90 would work as well.
Was a snug squeeze getting it on, before it works like a charm.

Re: Coolant Hose 39062-1149 Replacement
Using the RH hose sounds like it might be a good option. I had also looked at purchasing 2 of these hoses pictured below and the straight adapter from Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies. With a little cutting I believe this would also work as an alternative and have a fairly clean look.Dbb3 wrote:Sorry on the above. Wasn't sure if pics would post.
