An expedient method I've used to get that 3 quarts and 22 ounces with a new and previously unopened gallon Rotella jug, is measure out 10 ounces into an empty motor oil bottle, using the graduated marks on its level indicator. Then fill the motor with the rest. Got to agree with Thadbaker86voyager, doesn't hurt to notate level after servicing. As long as one is consistent, gives a reference.
Just that in my 18,000 miles of riding this bike, oil changes every couple thousand miles, haven't had a level problem so far. Now I did see a fairly new looking Harley tourer in an Amarillo poker run 2 years ago, that something mechanical blew just as they were pulling up to a poker card draw station, leaving an oily puddle on the ground. Left the rider and his pillion passenger in a non-ride off situation.
I dunno, stuff happens.

Re: Oil sight glass
It sure does.
Thanks for the link, Cranky. I'll check wally world first as I want to change the oil tomorrow and even prime isn't that fast. I have a number of usable funnels, I just don't have anything to measure accurately with. I briefly thought of using the cooking measuring cup from the kitchen but thankfully my common sense kicked in before I made a foolish decision that could cost me my life.
