Where to connect this wire?

Post by jorgeno »

Hi. I have a ZN1300 86 model imported from USA. It was running in Minnesota before it came to Norway in 2008. I bought it last summer. I have done some maintenance last winter (it was necessary). Like new CCT, all new fluids, hoses, oils, powder coated some parts like swing arm, brakets, battery case, calipers and so on. Replaced some bearings, adjusting valves ++ Now I’m putting it all together, but I’m wondering where to connect this wires? Can’t remember if it was loose all the time or not? I would be grateful if somebody could tell me that.

On the 1200 Voyagers there is a filter for the Citizen Band radio used to defeat the interference from the radiator fan motor when it is operating.
On the 1200's this filter fits "BETWEEN" the fan motor plastic connector from the main harness "AND" the plastic connector of the radiator fan motor wire leads.
Your photo appears to me to be an object identical to the 1200 Voyager CB filter, with the exception being yours does not have the Yellow wire, which on the 1200's is used for the fan on/off temperature sensor located on the bottom of our radiators.
A quick check on the wiring diagram for the ZN1300, AVA Home page,Tech Center, Voyager 1300, shows the wire leads for the radiator fan assembly having only the Blue and the Black/Yellow wires.
Et voila! That is a CB filter shown in your photo. One end of the wire leads connects to the main harness and the other end connects to the lead from the fan assembly. This does not need to be in circuit without a CB radio installed, BUT, the Blue and the Yellow/Black wires from both the main harness and fan assembly MUST be connected, either with or without this filter assembly, in order for the fan to operate

From the wiring diagram, it does look like the connection to the cooling fan:

If that's a filter it's not shown on the wiring diagram - not that weird though since the CB was optional. However, it would make sense to have the filter on power input to the CB (if it was only there for the CB - as opposed to a filter being there to reduce noise to other devices, e.g. the ECU).

Van Voyager;
it is definitely the fan noise filter for a CB installation, see the Voyager XII electrical diagram, also in the AVA Home Page, Tech Center.
Lower left corner of the diagram is where it is shown.
On the ZG1200s this cooling fan filter is not the only filter. There is another filter as shown in the "Clarion/Kawasaki OEM CB Installation" selection found in the "Accessories" category of the Voyager XII option of the Tech Center selection.
It is a small, plated, cube shaped metal container having a flange for mounting, and upon it's casing is a label with the manufacturer's ID of "NSA 094".
Not having a ZN1300 I cannot say whether or not this is used on your model, but I would guess it would have been installed if a CB had been fitted at some time or another.

Thanks for all replies. All of you are right. It was the connection to the fan :-)
