I may have a sale of Charlie's bike UPDATE

Post by Mr Jensee »

I may, I say may have an ebay sale of Charlie's bike but I am not holding my breath. Why? Because so far the only persons who have responded and made bids have email addresses that don't exist. The guy who purchased it put down his email address as @gmail.vom. I know that vom is not a host. So I changed it to com and resent it. He was supposed to deposit $500 to my PayPal account upon winning and he hasn't. Hopefully he will respond or the posting I had there for seven days was a bust. Now I am in holding mode.
In the meantime I reposted the bike for $2200 on Facebook's Kawasaki Voyager page. Maybe I will get some hits on it. If anyone is interested it is also posted in the AVA classifieds.

I hope it works out for you. I've never tried to sell anything on ebay or CL, but have heard about the problems dealing with people. I have never had trouble buying anything off either site.

I've got a friend who is trying to buy a boat motor off some Facebook site. The seller is getting a divorce and his soon-to-be ex has put a restraining order on him so a realtor has to get the motor. Seems like it would be easier to just not go fishing.

Speaking of luck. Wife and I went out to eat last night and I left my phone at home. Guess what? That is exactly when this guy calls. Leaves a message on my phone to call him back. His voicemail is full and I cannot leave a message. Who leaves a voicemail box full, especially when they explicitly say to call back? Grrrr. The saga continues.

Got hold of the buyer this morning. He seems to be legit. Told him he could pay with a cashiers check. He agreed. He will pay to have the bike picked up once the check is delivered. I just need to figure out what I need to gather to clear the title. it is in Charlie's name and his widow will need to sign it over. A burden has been lifted. :woohoo:

Got the check yesterday. Wont cash it till we get the title cleared. Louisiana has some antiquated procedures to turn over ownership. The buyer is a 70 year old trucker who will arrange to have the bike picked up by a trucking firm for delivery. I will post pictures when that happens.

Ok, the buyer has sent us the money in the form of a cashiers check on his bank. Today I got off by certified mail all the paperwork and title for the bike to him. Spoke with him yesterday and he is working on procuring a freight company that will come by and pick it up. This of course may take a couple weeks to resolve. But soon it will be out of my tight garage and on to a new owner. On the plus side, Dianne gave me two very nice leather vests with a huge AVA logo stitched on the back. Patty and I are thinking of wearing them to the Kerrville rally in June.

I said I would post pictures of Charlie O'neal's Voyager on it's way to its new owner. I was hospitalized when the man came to pick it up. My wife took the departing shots. At least I got that accomplished. Here are the images.

My tiny garage is just big enough for my wife's Hyundai Sanata Fe, my bike and my air compressor. She is very happy to have the space back! The new owner is said to have joined the AVA though I have yet to see him post.
