ABS

Post by pejman »

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a voyager 1200, model 1995.
Can I upgrade the brake system to e.g., ABS or any other system??

Best wishes

I have seen others put ZRX calipers on a Voyager but never an ABS system.

Mr. jensee
Will the ZRX calipers bolt right on to the Voyager or does a person need brackets?

I thought, too, the brakes on the VXII were a little weak, until I installed the braided stainless lines offered on this site  .With those lines and intermediate EBC pads it is not too difficult to lock up either tire, without using all the brake lever travel. :wnk2:

I have seen the finished product on the internet but when I asked about them I never received any replies. Someone would have to get measurements off a ZRX1200 and see if they match the mounts on the Voyager. If not then cutting and welding modifications will be necessary. The ZRX brakes I can tell you are powerful.

I bought a relocation bracket from Eagle Mike to mount a Suzuki SV 650 2 piston caliper to my KLR 650.
Man did that ever make a difference over the very weak single piston KLR caliper.
I had already installed a larger aftermarket brake disk. The bracket is for the larger disk.
Unfortunately Eagle Mike is in cancer treatment and his site is turned off until he recovers, so I can't supply a link.
I bought the left side caliper for $23 dollars from a guy on eBay. A new seal kit from Suzuki dealer for $13 dollars.
The bracket was $50 dollars. A must have upgrade to the KLR650 when you load them up with gear for long distance rides.

This is just a reminder a Voyager 1200 weighs 800 plus pounds empty. Add fuel, coolant, tools and all the stuff we carry in the saddle bags.

A ZX10,12 or 14 all weigh 550 lbs. That's 250 lbs less then a 1200., I'm sure the over worked rotors from the ZX will warp in short order.

Start by buying some quailtybrake pads. EBC, SBS or Galfer. Then flush the brake system. Last is install a set of brake lines.

So you are saying the triple caliper ZRX calipers would create too much heat?

I don't have a problem stopping. I was just curious because the ZXR calipers were brought up.
On the KLR, to keep the price point low they use a small rotor and a single piston caliper.
I'm talking gen. 1 KLR's. Most go to the bigger rotor and use the stock caliper.
With the bigger rotor you need a relocation bracket to get the caliper out farther.
Someone came up with making the bracket hold an SV650 caliper. They are cheap and plentiful.
You can lock up the front wheel if your not careful.
I don't know if you could make a bracket without having a larger diameter rotor.
