mighty quiet here, We need to chat it up a bit

With winter in full swing , have most of the bikes and rider's gone into hibernation ? We need some stories and tale's of what's been going on in you neck of the woods. I am guessing, that if you have a non-heated garage, its a no work zone with the cold and damp looming in on us all. Not a pleasure to work in the cold the older we get. I have not been busy in the shop , I had , for the first time in years , started early on getting the bike ready for the the upcoming season with just the trunk and saddle bag's needed to be installed once off the lift and the battery connected. First time in years that ALL fluids have been replaced. Bike has been feeling a bit heavy as I age a bit so I pull the trunk and bags off before I get it up on the lift. But not ready to go to three wheels yet. And my plan on sinking the lift into the floor may happen this summer once the bike can stay outdoors for a week or so. I will put up with loosing the 7 inchs of lift required to drop it down to floor level.
As I log on and go to active topic's there are not many new stories, I hope someone helps Barry out with his issues of pulling the lower cone off his steering and replacing the cups. So I am hoping that the search engine is working for everyone, and many have found their answers to questions there. And that's a good thing about the forum, we have all seen most of the issues with the 1200's and the answers to 99 % of the problems have been covered time and time again. I see quite a few new members, tell us what been going on with ya'll and more about your new to you voyager 1200. Are you's happy with it or not as pleased with it as you thought you would be. Once all the bugs are worked out these bike's will go the distance and most of us here in the AVA would just get up and go any where without a second thought about it. With just , good roads , good fuel, good food and a good place to bed down for the night being the biggest questions of the day.
So who's got some tales to tell or places they would like to travel to that they want to share with us all. Or stories of places you have traveled to that you want to chat about. Remember there are many here that have made a good living at being mechanics and would share all that with ya's. So for those of you that are new, remember we are here to help, before we get to old to remember..

I agree Gene,It has been quiet here lately.
If we get the snowstorm that has been predicted,we will not have a grandson basketball game to go to,so I plan to warm up the garage and do a thorough inspection of the fairing area of my bike to try to find that elusive and inconsistent tapping.

He has been in there off and on for most of last years riding season

I posted on the tech tips,what I found with the forks. due to a hurry to put it back together after resealing them.
Now I am waiting for some[ non winter storm warning ]weather to try it out.

I’m changing fork oil on my 02 and installing chrome calipers. Removed all the plastic and cleaning it real good. My garage is heated with carpeting. My garage is my man cave. I love it. I’m always tinkering with something. Will get the 02 done soon then will tear apart the 96. I remove the plastic on both bikes every winter and clean inside and out real good.

Voy,you DO have that bike apart,don't you.
My garage is not quite that nice,but it is well insulated,and attached to the house.
It rarely gets below 32,and even then,I can get it up into the 50s in about 2 hours with a small electric heater and a kerosene heater.

Looks good Kim, I though I was the only one to remove the plastic and clean them inside and out. I see a very nice clean bike in the pic.
It is a joy working in a heated shop/garage. Rain came in last night and all the snow and salt is gone. Even got a little sunshine today but not enough...... Wind is picking up here and we are supposed to get hit with some bad weather again. I am beginning to become bored. Not enough work in the shop and I am hoping the new Voyagers are in need for some trim items to be fabricated. The 1200 trim sales are all but gone and just the inserts remain an item I make. No one can say to you " keep the shinny side up " yours is shinny no matter where you look

My garage is heated in winter and air conditioned in the summer. 3 car garage right next to the house. Cars on the 2 sided side. Motorcycles have the single side with carpet. I’m out there quite often in my slippers even in winter. I keep it at about 65. Sometimes a bit warmer if I get chilly. I take the plastic off and move it into the basement for cleaning. That way I have lots of room in the garage. Most of the time I only put one car in so I can do the messy stuff on the cement side.

Hmm well where do I start Gene? I have no need at the moment for a heated garage because I have been unable to work on the bike in any capacity. I just managed to get my right knee operated on. The doctor said it was a mess in there and if I am not careful (I'm always careful) I am looking at a replacement knee in the future. Oh wonderful. The good news is that my left knee must have been paying attention to what the doctors were doing with the right knee and decided it had better straighten up it's act or it is going to get the same treatment. Whatever caused it the pain is gone in both knees and I am walking somewhat normal though very much like an old man.

On the motorcycle side, it has been too cold for us warm blooded creatures to be boarding and riding these days. today was a warm 31 degrees. I so wished I didn't have to go out this morning, but I did. I feel like my Voyager is finally complete before the extra money ran out. Now if I could just ride the thing.....

Hey Mike had to laugh at that last post---- " though very much like an old man " Well dog gone , we are old men. Good to hear you doing allot better. I have been having some issues with the right knee.... I think that mishap with the SUV is what damaged mine. I sounds off from time to time , I may have done more damage to it than I thought at the time of the accident but blood loss from the right foot seemed a more important issue back then and with just about 20 days away from the rally I payed more attention to getting the bike back into shape , rather than my self. It was just 2 days prior to leaving that I could wear a shoe on the right foot. But good for you that your doing better. Don't rush things, but do keep moving, my mother had both knees done at the same time but did not follow advice and move around. Now she has trouble with both knees 'again' and does not get around much. If I was only in as good a shape as my Voyager, I would be doing great.

Cushman I know your prayers and the prayers of others has worked a little miracle. I dont have any other reason for why the left knee has just healed itself without intervention. The doctor yesterday was amazed. I have PT scheduled for every other day now so I am going back this afternoon.

Gene you really need to go see an orthoscopic surgeon and have him scope that knee. I had really bad manicous tears in the right one and probably had tears in the left too. These dont usually heal without intervention. The surgery isn't bad and I was up walking without support in 2 days.
