Question about driver floorboard installation.

OK, so I have a set of driver floorboards I just installed that I got from another AVAer. I have the PDF from the tech area on the installation procedure and I am seeing a couple parts I didn't get with the kit. They appear to attached to the break pedal and are listed as part 610285 and 410600 collectively in the diagram.

The PDF refers to it as a footguard but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is supposed to guard. Or do.

Anyone have a pic of this bit installed and some wisdom as to what it does? It looks easy enough to fabricate if it is worthwhile.

.. the only part I can imagine, that I have, is the right heel rest so you
can modulate the rear brake.... you can't put you heel on the floor
board and raise your toe up far enough to work the rear brake, is
why it's needed, IMHO....

That wire part is to prevent the front part of your foot from going "under" the brake pedal step on tread. The operator's foot is supposed to land "on top" of the step on tread where it would need to go in an emergency attempt at using the rear brake pedal.
A lot of people forget to remove this guard when they sell/trade the floorboards.

Ah. Very helpful, guys, both the pic and the description. Seems to me that part could have been designed with a flare to the outside on the bottom to let you operate the brake without having to move your foot to the heel support, an action I am trying to get used to. I don't see it as needed as my boots won't easily fit under the pedal in the first place.

Cranky: as the risk of hijacking the post... Are the floorboards mounted farther forward than the original pegs?

.... Never having pegs I don’t know, it is in my impression that the floorboards are lower..
whether they are more to the front or or not, I don’t know, sorry!!!

I think they are pretty close to the same height although since they are longer they seem farther forward when you put your feet in the middle where they seem to want to be. If you put your feet toward the back of the floorboard you are pretty close to the location of the original pegs.

I'll give it a closer look when I get the chance. I've been so consumed with fiddling with the shifter that the other ergos of the setup have not been on my mind. The shifter is too short or something, if I adjust it so I can get my boot under the toe I have to pick my foot up completely off the floorboard to downshift. I am going to try adjusting it so I have to use the heel to upshift and the toe to downshift. I may be going back to pegs just due to the shifter geometry, which would be a shame as I really like the floorboards otherwise.

I've managed to get mine just right, I can get my toe under the front and
the upshift works... JM2C

It seems like you'd have to have a pretty radical bend at the ankle to get your toe over the top of the shifter to downshift. Not only won't my boots flex that much, I'm pretty sure my ankles won't, either. The reason it's easier with the pegs is that your foot can pivot around the peg with your heel going lower than the floorboard on a downshift and you toe going lower than the floorboard on an upshift. I just need to find a balance. My VN1500 has floorboards that work fine for me so I know there is a balance point someplace.
