Headlight bulb replacement!!!!
I have an 86 Voyager. And my headlamp warning (idiot light) bulb came on which tells me that I need to replace my headlamp. What is the trick to this procedure. I took out the 2 screws in the fairing right under the light then I took off the 4 clips that look like they hold the lens cover on. At this point i thought that I would have an easy time of removing the lens and replacing the bulb. But I can't get my lens cover off to expose the bulb, if any one knows what I am doing wrong PLEASE let me know. I am planning a trip and need to get thre bulb replaced ASAP. Thank you all in advance for the help.

Re: Headlight bulb replacement!!!!
The headlight is really easy to replace. Just remove the 2 under the fairing right under the headlight. The Plastic trim ring around the headlight lense will snap right off. (There are no clips involved.) The are 4 10mm hex head bolts holding the lense assembly in the fairing. Remove them & you can lift the headlight assy. right out of the fairing. You can pick up the replacement bulb at any auto parts store or even Walmart.

Re: Headlight bulb replacement!!!!
To change the head light bulb you remove to two screws under the head light trim, then you remove the 4 10mm head bolts/phillip screws two on each side of the head light. Once you have them out, slide the head light assy out through the openig this takes a little bit of feness one side comes out first then the other. The assembly will only come out a short way because the adjuster cable is connected to it on the left side DO NOT DISCONNECT. At the center of the rear you will find a rubber cover remove the cover then unplug connector from the back of the bulb. Once this is done you'll find a spring clip the holds the bulb in release on one side and remove the bulb. Reverse to install DO NOT TOUCH NEW BULB GLASS with your fingers hold by metal only and insert.

Re: Headlight bulb replacement!!!!
From the point of disassembly you are at right now, find the four bolts that hold the headlight to the bike, two on each side. 10mm head I believe. Once removed the headlight should swing out far enough to allow access to the back. If this is not enough room you will need to remove the screws securing the adustment cable to the headlight. Warning the cable will be difficult to reinstall with out an assistant. After accessing the back of the headlight you can unplug the bulb by pulling rearward on the plug using a slight rocking motion. Next remove the rubber boot which protects the socket from moisture. Under the boot you will find a wire spring clip that will need to be unlatched. Push in and rotate out on clip. The bulb can now be removed. Reverse above procedure for reinstallation.....

Thanks for the advice guys, I got it changed out. It's kind of a pain with the adjuster cable attached, but I got it done. This board is the best. No matter what everyone always is willing to help out with our problems no matter what it is someone always has a way to help get it done. Thanks again! Enjoy safe riding.

Re: Headlight bulb replacement!!!!
Hey Guys - just stopping by to say THANK YOU for the advice/instructions.
I just changed out the headlight bulb in my 92 Voyager. The procedure was exactly as you described - complete with that adjuster cable being kind of a pain in the butt. :)

Re: Headlight bulb replacement!!!!
With the ignition ON you are checking the headlight after the start button has been pushed, right?
If yes then possibly the headlight relay isn't working. Just some ideas,
Dave

Re: Headlight bulb replacement!!!!
... it's immediate, just the act of hitting the starter can do it, it doesn't need to be running...
