Lifting the Voyager

I've got an ATV jack/lift that I use with my KLR. I want to use it on the Voyager. Does anyone know where the center of weight is on the bike? If it's at the about 12" of frame rails I can make it work. If it balances further back it'd be somewhat harder to do, what with the exhaust and center stand in the way. Has anyone used this type of jack for the Voyager?

Also, when I try to use the center stand, and step on the 'go up' lever, the bike just 'rolls off' forward. What's the deal? I need a lesson or to fix it!

I purchased a Y-lift, from Harbor Freight, for my Voyager... Never had any luck finding/kluge-ing an adapter to avoid crushing the exhaust pipes as it lifts the bike. Spent mo' money on adapters, but they won't work. Need welding and fabrication skills to make an adapter -- I have neither. Too bad, as this is a nice lift. This is the better lift, which I wish I had saved up for, instead; with a coupon, you can get it for $299 -- have to search for this particular coupon, though, as it only appears a couple times a year. I have seen it listed in the classifieds/ads section of some magazines, like "Rider", so that might be a better source to find the coupon. Check the expiration dates carefully... My brother-in-law has this one, and he thinks it is superb (two Harleys, one a touring bike, decked out, and heavy, the other is a Honda Rebel -- it handles all three bikes without issue). Many good reviews of it, as well, on the Internet, and YouTube. It does have a large footprint in the garage, however, so plan accordingly.

Make certain your ATV lift can handle the 800 lbs. of the Voyager, unloaded, as well. It is not a lightweight bike!

The center stand is a two-stage unit. The lever for the first stage is quite often broken off, and missing. You need to put the first stage down, first (obviously!), or the second stage will be a monster to get the bike up! There are videos on YouTube, as well, I've read. Cheers!

Thanks for replying! My lift is rated for 1500-lbs. The main reason I want to lift the bike is for changing tires and checking the function of the center stand. I don't want to go to the trouble of making an adapter for the lift if it's off balance picking up on the frame rails. I need to know where, front to back, is the balance point.

Don't know about your lift but I bought the "el-cheapo" lift from harbor freight and I need the adapter. Without the adapter the lift rests on the inner exhaust pipes. The adapter allows it to rest on the frame itself. I only use it for changing tires, etc as the center stand allows enough room for oil changes and simple stuff.

Mine was similar to this one but only $69 when I bought it. Got the adapters from someone on the forum but not sure who. The adapters just bolted on to the sides to give clearance for the exhaust pipes. https://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lbs- ... cycle+lift

Years ago someone on this forum was manufacturing the lift adaptors that bolt to an ATV lift. They work well and don't crush the inner exhaust pipes. The only irritant is the contact points at the rear are on the centerstand mounts. So no working on the centerstand when up on the lift!
