What a PIA, For years now it was a snap to get avon's to fit the voyager 1200. Today it took over an hour to look the front tire up. I hope I made the right choice on AMAZON. I started with the AVON venoms some years ago ,then they changed to avon COBRA'S ( AV71 & and AV72 ) With a speed and weight code of 74 H XL FOR THE FRONT IN TUBELESS AND AN 80H XL FOR THE REAR IN TUBELESS. All done by a friend in the bike building trade. He has now went on to just painting bikes in a new location without all the repair work and custom mod's that took up too much time. Well now having to actually look them up and order my-self ; on this old and slow PC I could not find the tires at all for the voyager. Only from reviews did I find the change in name and P/N. But from amazon it did not list the speed and weight for the front. They may loose me as a user of AVON'S . I made the order thru AMAZON still not being sure of the 74H XL and 80H XL Rating. And what a price increase those went for. So now it seems they have changed again to COBRA-CHROME, BOY that name change boosted the price up quite a bit. With the 2 tire's and 3 sets of EBC brake pads it was a tad over 400.00 USD. I hope not to be needing to make any returns and sure do miss the old day's of actually talking to a human when making such a large order. It used to be so easy, If the vendor didn't know he would just call his Avon sales rep and bingo , an answer right over the phone. Imagine that , talking on a cell-phone, looking at the younger generation I was beginning to think one could only TEXT
I wore the rear down to the point that AVON website derated the speed down to a max of 80 from 130 , but it was close to 24,000 miles and down to 0.115" A very nice mileage and with no cupping . I could not believe it myself and we looked and double checked and its been well over two years with the same set. I had known about the worn dampener and spline so my riding was soft and easy as if the wife was on the back the whole time. I have never gone so far on a tire EVER.... And I had not pulled the trailer with this set. A good thing is that the date of manufacture should be very recent since this seems to be a brand new line of tire. Good thing I started early on bike maintenance , and other than pads and tires only the caliper on the rear and the wheel's rubber dampener and spline needed to be changed out. Thanks Mike N. for the very low mileage parts for the rear wheel.
Pulling the final drive off the swing arm showed no signs of gear oil leakage and plenty of lube on the slip joint sleeve. If anyone has any more info on AVON'S new line of COBRA - CHROME TYERS , I would like to hear a review or two.
