A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Dragon

Post by GrandpaDenny »

A very spry old gentleman named Norman (wouldn't give his last name) came up to me whilst parked at Deals Gap and we talked Voyagers. He told me he has an '88 at home he bought brand new, has 180k on it. 79 years old and he rode the Dragon on a Concours 14. Amazing. He also told me he used to belong to the AVA many many years ago.

Today was indeed a very, very cool day.

Nice to encounter others who are Voyager XII owners. I've only met a few other Voyager XII owners whilst out and about on mine. Most had moved on to other bikes but all responded favorably to the Voyager memories. I had recently been looking for a used Concours and was trying to sell my Vulcan Classic. Wound up trading my Classic with a fellow who had a Honda ST 1100 and look forward to trying it out on the Dragon maybe later this year. Made a 500 mile roundtrip up to ride part of the BRP on it last Saturday and it handles great in the hills. Butt......needless to say the stock seat doesn't compare to the comfort of the Voyager XII. Plan to keep the Voyager XII as long as I'm able to ride....

Back in 2010, I ran into a couple riding their bikes to the Apostle Islands, in Wisconsin. He was riding a Voyager XII, she was on something else. I was intrigued with the Voyager, so I asked him about it... After that, I searched Craigslist, found an ad for a used Voyager XII, and the rest, as they say, is history.

My Dad's best friend has ridden just about everything produced since the early 1960's. He, too, had a Voyager XII, back in the late 1980's. I've talked with him about mine. He has very fond memories of his, as well.

I expect this will be my last bike. We have so much fun, making so many memories on it. It ain't perfect, but it is a solid bike. Hoping the heat index will drop below 100 F, this weekend, so we can take a weekend trip to anywhere, to get away, relax, and enjoy each other, and our passion: riding together, on our Voyager. We love riding in the wind, drinking in the beauty of the life all around us. It is amazing, to take it all in, sucking fresh air, the whole time, the sights, the sounds, the smells of the fresh-cut grass, and the flowers... Can't put a price on the happiness we get out of it all. Cheers!
