New riding group and a new part

Post by ekap1200 »

Hello all from sunny southern NJ. It has been a hot one and some days just too hot to enjoy riding. But a few weeks ago down in Malaga NJ I met a few riders that informed me a group of riders meet on Monday evenings. One mentioned a 1200 was in the group. No club or chapter , just people from the area. So the next day, ( Monday ) I drove down and to my surprise found quite a large group. Meeting the owner of the 1200 and noticing a newer green AVA logo on his windshield I gave him my best sales pitch on trim items I still have in stock... And finding out his membership expired gave a sales pitch on that as well, Well Harry has now renewed and ordered a set of vent/trim. as shown in the pic.
Another item I have been trying for quite a long time to do for another AVA member , is one that Jim (Arnes ? ) had made some time ago. Shown in the pic also, is the fork/tube running lamp bracket, ( in the flat, before brake/forming ). Way back at the Kanab Rally he gave me a bracket/proto made up of 5 pieces welded to form the part. These parts shown are .125 stainless brushed finish, to use as a final blank size before forming, ( as the mirror finish is quite expensive to use for a test part )
Hoping to get these formed this week . I have to say it has been great to meet up and ride with a group after months of just heading out on my own...

I do miss my AVA family, and will do my best to get to the fall ride in.. Those of you that know me , won't recognize me as I have recovered quite well and been doing great. Looking back at pics of myself at the last rally , well I was at death's doorway...

Glad you're doing well, Gene. A set of fork lights would look wonderful on Gertrude. I like lights, as you may have noticed. Speaking of forks, your phone is about to ring.

Gene ,

Glad you are doing better. I also miss the AVA family and any other year I would be heading to the fall ride in but not with this Covid thing. I can’t risk it. It would kill me. In fact I’m surprised their even having it. I’m not even optimistic about next years Rally. I have lost 4 good friends to this horrible sickness and have several family members still real sick and I fear a couple might not make it and this thing is getting worse.

Most of us from the Mid-Atlantic Voyagers could tell you a story about Marie, fresh cookies and a hotel!
:-D
If you happen to make it to this years fall MAV Ride-In ask a few folks about the 2014 or 2015 Ride-In at Mansfield. Great weekend, great food and great rides and great cookie service as the hotel made fresh cookies the one evening for the guests! We also had the pleasure of emptying the bar of chairs so we could set in the hotel parking lot to watch fireworks that Saturday evening as the town was celebrating an old football game (must have been one for the books)!

They came out pretty nice, and installation was a breeze. Very happy with the new look for my front end.

Hey Gene, glad to hear your feeling well. Hoping to join you guys on a Monday soon. Sounds like Marie is getting impatient to get back to her garden. Hope to see you both at the MAV ride in.
Having fun whenever possible is never overrated!
